It was a beautiful day that I had the privilege of covering both the 12 and 14 u brackets on Day 1. The competition and level of play was outstanding throughout the day in my opinion, here are my to performers in the 12U Bracket:
The best quarterback on Day 1 was Breakthrough Elite’s Michael Walsh, very impressed with how he commanded the offense at such a young age. Only 12 and he throws a beautiful deep ball, Walsh will be sure to be on recruiting radars for years to come.
Highlights
Bernard Hopkins
Bernard Hopkins
One of the best athletes for both brackets was Bernard Hopkins, this young man is going to be a star. Locking down his receiver in almost every snap, Hopkins had an acrobatic interception in the final seconds of Swag U victory over Dogg World, he is ready for his moment.
Amir Cauley
Amir Cauley
What stood out to me about Cauley is that he may have been playing out of position for this event but it did not slow him down in making plays. Representing Dogg World Amir Cauley had a couple really nice plays defensively at linebacker, displaying excellent range. Right now he has the frame and speed to keep up with running backs and receivers in coverage but I could see his ceiling at the next level being in the trenches. A big man with good mobility will make any high school offensive lineman coach very happy.
Dominic Fontanez
Dominic Fontanez
Fontanez playing quarterback for the DA FAM 12U squad was very impressive himself, throwing several pretty passes. It was clear to me early on that he was operating a talented group and he did not once seem intimidated leading DA FAM to several scoring drives. Throwing well on the run too, Dominic Fontanez has a bright future on the football field, he is athletic enough to play other positions as well.
Raymond Queen
Raymond Queen
Level 82 12U squad was the best team on day 1 in my opinion and kids like Raymond Queen were a big reason why. One of the fastest kids on the field, I saw him catch a pass from behind and he still had enough breakaway speed to pull away from the defenders. A few of the high school coaches were in unanimous agreement on Queen he was that good. To standout amongst his age group is one thing when one coach told me “He is someone I want to work with now” you know the young man is making a lasting impression.
