The talent at this event was quite deep and the 12U division was no exception. A total of ten teams competed in the 12U division, with Legacy taking home the championship trophy Sunday morning. In part two of our series, we’re looking at some of the top prospects we saw on both day one and day two.
WR: Finn Manning, TN Stars
Manning was a standout at our tournament in 2023 and this spring was no exception. He’s shifty against level two reroutes, and can snap off a route at a moment’s notice to separate at the top of his route. He shows outstanding burst off the snap, good body control, and the vision to spot cutback opportunities after the catch.
WR: Zavier Hunter, Legacy
Hunter is a quick prospect with natural route awareness and the ability to find the soft spots in zone coverage. He knows how to alter route tempo to confuse defenders and shows sudden hands, plucking the football out of the air.
LB/WR: Cooper Olin, TN Stars
This young man may be on the smaller side, but man can he ball. On offense, he has the speed, hands, and deep ball-tracking ability to take the top off a defense. He’s got some wiggle after the catch and was consistently able to work all three levels of the field. On defense, he lined up at linebacker and showed outstanding anticipation and instincts. He can run with number two receivers up the seam and plays with a chip on his shoulder.
DB: Caleb Gilkey, DMG
Gilkey was a big-time playmaker at safety who knows how to read the quarterback’s intentions and can close plenty of ground when the football is in the air. He’s got loose hips, pretty tight footwork, and takes quality angles to the ball carrier.
WR/DB: Darius Weaver, Middle Tennessee Elite
Weaver didn’t look like he was under twelve years old nor did he play like it. This was a long prospect who excelled at both wide receiver and safety. He used his size to box out smaller defenders and go up and high-point the football. He’s got strong hands, springy leaping ability, and natural balance through contact.
