Michigan Made Standouts At PRZ Hoosier State Hustle

He fired off the line quickly, ran his route precisely and kept moving to find a spot to get open, giving his QB a big target. He displayed a large catch radius, and had the instincts to turn up field immediately and get extra yardage. His body control on jump balls was better than I remember seeing before, and I really loved how 50-50 balls seem to just go his way always. He seemed in control, and acted as the leader that his team needed. I think his mechanics and footwork will continue to take shape, but he does have a big arm and solid frame that he will be able to continue to build. He's super athletic, and stretches the field with ease. He wins 1 on 1 matchups more often than not, and against zone, he finds a little daylight, makes the catch, and goes to work with free space ahead. He's about as athletically gifted of a WR as you'll find, and this youngster is still learning and evolving! I like his route running, and I like how well he is able to post up in the middle and catch the ball with his hands, tuck and turn up field in a hurry. He's capable of taking off down the sideline, getting his defender behind him, and reeling in some tough catches for touchdowns and big yardage. He has fantastic body control, he stays ahead of the defender, and his cuts are nearly impossible to predict. He doesn't tip off his route at all, and when he cuts, he makes defenders look silly. Coaches told me they couldn't believe he didn't have more offers, and one well respected coach told me he was probably the best wide receiver he had ever coached. Calmese has taken huge steps from when I saw him last, and I think he's only going to continue working and getting better. He did not disappoint, as he looked the part early and often across the entire weekend. This kids concentration and ball skills are so far above what you would expect out of a young receiver. He is mature beyond his years as far as his game skill and style. You can tell he has put a ton of work into the weight room, his body control, and hauling in contested balls. He looked super impressive all weekend, slinging the rock all over. He has a nice quick trigger, which is great for 7 on 7 ball in particular, but obviously it can be helpful in real game situations as well. He was able to use a pump fake and reload quickly to take advantage of a defender that would bite. His footwork was above average, his mechanics looked pretty good, and there were a number of times where he just flicked the ball with ease over a defender to a streaking receiver.
