New Haven a top D2 program in the area finished 8-3 last season losing only one conference game and eventually losing in the first round of the D2 National Championship Tournament. New Haven features several New Yorkers on their roster but this group of prospects looks like their best addition of New York prospects in a couple of years. This article will include both scholarship and walk-on players because not only are both integral to the success of college football programs but at the D2 level with a lower scholarship limit and partial scholarships, walk-on or small scholarship prospects are recruited just as hard and often receive playing time.
Highest Ranked Recruit
Oshane Martin Jr Oshane Martin Jr 6’2″ | 205 lbs | LB Erasmus Hall | 2024 State NY coming out of Erasmus Hall is one of the most athletic linebackers coming from New York. He falls under a long list of very successful Dutchman linebackers who have or are currently playing college football. Martin Jr is a versatile player that can impact the game against the run, drop into coverage, and be an effective blitzer with his burst, bend, and finishing ability. Martin Jr can be effective lining up on the edge using quick and violent hands to shed blocks and get into the backfield. Martin Jr is physical at the point of attack and shows the versatility to be a very impactful OLB at the next level.
Rest of the Class
Abdoul Bah Abdoul Bah 5’11” | 205 lbs | LB Cardinal Hayes | 2024 State NY , another top NYC LB was a leader on Catholic State Champion Cardinal Hayes defense. Bah lined up all over the field for Cardinal Hayes and was a big reason why there defense was so dominant through the long season. Bah is a really good tackler and finisher. He comes downhill with violence, takes good pursuit angles, and is efficient and consistent in his ability to wrap up and finish in space. Bah’s best ability is his closing speed and trigger down hill. Another talented LB prospect headed to New Haven.
Fabian Rhoden Fabian Rhoden 6’0″ | 235 lbs | DL Newburgh | 2024 State NY , one of my favorite defensive line prospects has been a big contributor to Newburgh’s success over the previous couple of seasons. Rhoden has a thick powerful lower half and he is explosive out of his stance. While he may not have the ideal height or length for an interior defensive line position he plays with very good pad level and is consistently winning with his hands and playing with leverage. Rhode is athletically impressive, and has skills to his game that not many other defensive lineman in New York can replicate.
Nick Souffrin Nick Souffrin 6’1″ | 190 lbs | WR Monsignor Farrell | 2024 State NY , a talented two-way player for Monsignor Farrell was one of their top seniors from this past years squad. Souffrin who will play defensive back at New Haven is a phsycial tackler and can make plays defensively in open space. The ball skills he shows offensively will translate at the next level where his ability to track and high point the football will stand out. Souffrin plays with a high-motor and uses active hands to get off blocks showcasing the ability to set the edge from the cornerback position. Souffrin will be a versatile defensive back for New Haven for years to come.
Highlights
One of the top Offensive Lineman prospects in the PSAL, Tamel Morgan Tamel Morgan 6’3″ | 275 lbs | OL James Madison | 2024 State NY was a dominant mauling guard for James Madison. Morgan plays with really good fundamentals. His hand placement, consistency in mainting and finishing blocks stand out on tape. Morgan plays with a mauling attitude, always moving his feet, looking for work at the second level and finishing guys to the ground. As Morgan continues to add strength and get bigger his game will only continue to develop for New Haven.
Issac Glaudin Issac Glaudin 5’9″ | 150 lbs | WR Holy Cross | 2024 State NY out of Holy Cross was one of if not the best WRs in the PSAL this season. A consistent producer for multiple seasons, Glaudin is one of those players who just looks like he belongs playing at the next level when you watch his tape. New Haven are getting an extremely smooth route runner whose ability to catch and turn up field make him a dangerous YAC player. Glaudin is smooth and simple in the way he plays but is one of the most effective players in New York.
Dwayne Meadors Dwayne Meadors 6’3″ | 220 lbs | LB Hempstead | 2024 NY out of Hempstead is a big physical back who was consistently one of the hardest guys to bring down in all of Long Island this past fall. Meadors is big at 200+ lbs and runs with good strength and power. Meadors may not be the fastest back but his lower half is so strong that defenders really struggle to bring him down when they go low, when they go high Meadors often ends up putting his shoulder through them. New Havens adds some size to their backfield with only 2 RBs on the roster over 200lbs.
Jared Navidad Jared Navidad K Carmel | 2024 NY one of the most productive kickers in the state from Carmel will join New Haven. Navidad was perfect on PATs this season making all 46 attempts and 6/9 on FGs with 7 Touchbacks on Kickoffs. Navidad has multiple years of production and has a long list of accolades as his production made him one of the top kickers in the state.
Austin Luzzi, formerly of New Rochelle did a post-graduate year at Salisbury and after a dominant season with over 2,000 yards passing and 23 TDs in 8 games the 6’5 singal caller will be joining the Chargers. Luzzi has a big arm and he is a tough QB to bring down with his size and elusiveness. His ability to escape and extend make him an intruiging prospect for New Haven. Luzzi’s who had good tape at New Rochelle continued to develop his mechanics looking much smoother and more comfortbale in the pocket during his season at Salisbury.
