Continue ReadingOhio is one of those states that produces a ton of football talent each year. Whether it be from the cities, the suburbs or the farm land, there is a lot of fertile recruiting territory in the Buckeye State. Here are are a few of the many 2028s starting to emerge as kids to watch.
– Three-sport athlete that excels in baseball and wrestling as well. In fact, he placed seventh in the 2024 Ohio Athletic Committee (OAC) State Wrestling Tournament.
– Plays a number of positions on offense, namely running back and wide receiver. Defensively, does a good job cracking the pads in the secondary, too.
– Brings the toughness and physicality of a wrestler to the skill positions. He’s one of, more than a handful of, Trotwood-Madison kids that have popped up the radar early
– At 5-foot-11 and 145-pounds, he’s a multi-sport athlete (basketball) that has a ton of ability and physical room for growth
– Had an extremely productive year for the undefeated, conference champion, Allen East Middle School. Recording 481 total receiving yards, 692 total yards and nine touchdowns
– I listed Smith as a wide receiver but he can honestly play either wide receiver or defensive back at this point. Has really good ball skills and super-reliable hands. Has enough speed to outrun most at this point, but there’s always room for faster in-game speed
– A big-bodied wide receiver/outside linebacker/defensive type, that is already listed at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds
– Was part of a Ginn Elite team, that was arguably the best travel ball team to come out of Ohio in a very long time
– Will likely ultimately end up on the defensive side of the ball when all is said and done, but was a physical presence on a team that was full of superstars
– Very active outside linebacker with the quickness and instincts of a corner
– Another member off a 14UGinn Elite team, that was arguably the best travel ball team to come out of Ohio in a very long time
– Plays on his toes and is very twitchy out in space–to the point where I prefer him there. Though he gives up some inches as an outside linebacker at this point, he plays stronger at the point of impact, than his size would indicate. Depending on growth, don’t be shocked to see flirt with strong safety somewhere along the line
– A very athletically gifted prospect out Columbus, Ohio that shined as both a defensive end and quarterback this season
– Standing an ideal 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds–for either of his main positions–what he does on the defensive side of the ball really shines out. Length, speed and the ability to bring down event the quickest backs
– The one thing that really sticks out to me, is just how raw of a defensive end he is. He rarely used his hands, relying heavily on his foot speed and agility, and still made a ton of plays behind the line of scrimmage. Once he starts working with a defensive line coach, or pass rush specialist and he starts to incorporate quick hands, Kenneth McCall III Kenneth McCall III 6’2″ | 210 lbs | DL OH is going to be a tough kid to stop in the Buckeye State.
Highlights
– At 6-foot-1 and 140-pounds, Poetter plays the wide receiver position at a high level and uses the most of his long frame and ability to get up in the air.
– While wide receiver may be his love, don’t sleep on his ability to play defense. Granted it’s just a small sample size, but he shows the ability to come down and make a difference in the box from the free safety position too.
– He’ll be off to Anderson High School next year, where the defending Region 8 champs will reload with a talented weapon on the outside. Poetter will be a welcomed new face to go along with a stellar 2027 group that includes two prospects currently ranked in our 2027 Ohio rankings in Ashton Alston Ashton Alston 5’10” | 160 lbs | DB Anderson | 2027 State OH and Antwoine Higgins Jr Antwoine Higgins Jr 6’4″ | 215 lbs | LB Anderson | 2027 State OH . Fittingly, both Alston and Higgins Jr. were featured as eighth-graders on PRZ Next over a year ago.
