The Prep Redzone 7v7 circuit made it’s way through Oklahoma this weekend as the second annual Sooner State Shootout took place in Broken Arrow. We had a great weekend of football and saw so many players at all levels making plays both days. Congratulations to our champions of the tournament! TheUNIT Platinum continued their dominant offseason by winning the 18U title. Sooner 7 took home the 15U and 14U championships and had a runner up finish in 12U while Level Up 7v7 would win that 12U crown but they also had teams make the 18U and 15U championship games.

Last year, they performed really well at our Tennessee tournament and were playing as the Fire Dragons. This year, they have a new brand and they look even better.
Leading the way for Rip City this weekend was Iowa City 2025 quarterback Bobby Bacon Bobby Bacon 6’0″ | QB Iowa City | 2025 IA and he really impressed. As Rip City made a run through bracket play, I got a chance to watch them in multiple games and Bacon’s arm talent really stood out to me. Granted, he had some absolute dudes from a speed and size standpoint at receiver but Bacon was delivering the ball where it needed to be. And after talking with some of their coaches, we’re not surprised to find out that he was one of Iowa’s passing leaders during the 2023 season. We checked out what our PRZ-Iowa writers have written about him and they believe he’s on the rise heading into the 2024 season and all of that checks out after watching him in person.
Liberty 2025 wide receiver Dallas Miller Dallas Miller 5’11” | 175 lbs | WR Liberty | 2025 IA was one of Bacon’s top targets in the passing game throughout the weekend. He certainly impressed our writers and other staff members during the tournament. And after going back and looking at what our PRZ-Iowa writers have written about him, Miller could be in the middle of a very busy offseason. He had a terrific junior campaign last fall and he’s continuing to build momentum off that 2023 season. Miller showcased his speed and route running throughout the tournament and he’s going to be a name to watch moving forward. PRZ-Iowa already has him as one of the wide receivers to look out for in 2024 and after watching him this weekend, I know why.
Highlights
The last time I saw Iowa City 2024 standout Drew Larson Drew Larson 6’1″ | 165 lbs | WR Iowa City High | 2024 State IA was our Tennessee tournament nearly a year ago. At the time, Larson was a quarterback who shined on both sides of the ball. Fast forward to this past weekend, and Larson is now an Iowa commit and was one of the top wide receivers in the 18U division. Going back and looking at some of our notes from last year’s Tennessee tournament, it’s not surprising. Larson was listed as one of the better two-way players in the tournament because of his athleticism. That was on full display during the tourney in Broken Arrow. As they made a run in bracket play, Larson would burn several of Oklahoma’s top athletes and find his way into the end zone for six points.

Similar to Larson, Iowa City 2025 tight end Parker Sutherland Parker Sutherland 6’6″ | 215 lbs | TE Iowa City | 2025 IA is another face we remembered from that Tennessee tournament a year ago. At the time, Sutherland was a raw but impressive looking sophomore athlete, based strictly on his size. Fast forward to this weekend and it looks like Sutherland has filled out the frame, become stronger and is a red zone nightmare for opponents because of his 6’6 frame. After doing some research, it looks like this is going to be a very busy offseason for Sutherland from camps to visits as he looks for his opportunity. There is a lot to like in his game moving forward. He has size and can move. Those things don’t always go together and Sutherland has both qualities.

And we go to the defensive side of the ball for our final standout. Iowa City 2024 linebacker and Iowa Western signee Santana Miller Santana Miller 6’2″ | LB Iowa City | 2024 IA is a very impressive looking athlete. Watching him run around, we instantly knew he was going to be one of the standouts of this team. Miller is just built like a truck and when he gets his momentum going, it’s hard to slow him down. Now granted, this is a 7v7 tournament so we couldn’t see the full skillset of Miller because we have to imagine that he can absolutely lay the wood in the hitting department. But Miller still impressed during the tournament and did a good job in pass coverage. He had us wanting to go back and throw on the tape to see what he does with the pads on.
