Continue ReadingPrep Redzone Louisiana will release a final 2024 rankings this week before officially turning the page to 2025 with its next round of updates — followed by 2026 updates and the first 2027 rankings.
Leading up to the complete, 400-player list on Thursday, we will count down the top 40 in more detail.
And make sure to check back following the release for additional features and notes on the 2024 cohort as we close the recruiting book on the class as they begin their college careers.
40. Luke Wisham Luke Wisham 6'2" | 170 lbs | ATH Zachary | 2024 State LA — 6-2, 180 ATH — Zachary (Louisiana Tech)
The one-time receiver and Louisiana (Lafayette) commit became one of his Broncos’ top playmakers and leaders on defense this fall after a transition to safety — a position move and senior performance that sparked a fresh recruiting surge before signing with Louisiana Tech. Wisham is a tall, long athlete with good ball skills who earned several offers as a pass-catcher and showed this fall his willingness to come downhill and play physically in the box and nose for the ball in traffic.
39. Christian Pritchett Christian Pritchett 6'3" | 175 lbs | DB St. Augustine | 2024 State LA — 6-3, 175 DB — St. Augustine (Georgia Tech)
Pritchett peeks into the top 40 in the final rankings, a few spots ahead of his positioning to enter his senior season. One of Georgia Tech’s big recruiting wins in Louisiana for the 2024 class, the St. Augustine standout is another long, rangy and intelligent safety with great anticipation and ball skills, verified 4.5-second 40-yard speed, a hard-hitting physicality to his game and the versatility to excel playing centerfield, covering in man or helping in run support.
38. Ty Lee Ty Lee 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Lafayette Christian | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 170 DB — Lafayette Christian (Southern)
Easily the highest-ranked signee for Southern since Prep Redzone Louisiana launched during the 2021 cycle, Lee has been one of the state’s most consistent and productive defensive backs the past two years with back-to-back all-state seasons with great play at both corner and safety for his perennial-power Knights. Lee plays with great technique and good speed and, though being one of the smaller athletes of the highest-ranked dozen or so defensive backs on the list, has shown his ability and willingness to play physically in the box.
37. Jadon Mayfield Jadon Mayfield 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Ruston | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 220 LB — Ruston (Louisiana Tech)
Louisiana Tech managed to keep another defensive star without prototypical size, but with a hyper-productive and -decorated résumé in-state in the hometown linebacker, whose intelligence, quickness to the ball and sure and explosive tackling upon arrival helped earn three straight all-state honors in Louisiana’s highest classification and helped lead a defensive-led Ruston’s first state championship run in more than three decades.
36. Kyle Williams Kyle Williams 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Northshore | 2024 State LA — 6-0, 175 DB — Northshore (Arkansas State)
Williams earned an early top-10 ranking following freshman year before injuries hampered his next two years, including a labrum costing him his sophomore campaign. But, back at his healthiest since that early breakout, the versatile athlete capped his high school career with a district defensive MVP effort working primarily at cornerback. Williams has experience playing all over the field and in all three phases and is a smart and physical playmaker with the chance to still ultimately prove himself among the top prospects in this class.
35. Joshua Jackson Joshua Jackson 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR St. Augustine | 2024 State LA | 6-3, 205 WR | St. Augustine (UAB)
The one-time Tulane commitment will instead head to conference foe UAB and coach Trent Dilfer. Jackson is a big target, up more than 20 pounds from his previously listed weight, with good speed, eyes and reliable hands on even difficult catches in traffic or going up over defenders. His recruitment slipped some from once having Michigan and Mississippi State among his heaviest suitors, but he finishes as a top-five receiver prospect in Louisiana’s senior class and potential steal for the Blazers.
34. Tah’j Butler Tah’j Butler 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Edna Karr | 2024 State LA — 6-1, 215 LB — Edna Karr (Georgia Tech)
The second Georgia Tech signee on this list, the Cougars’ defensive field general is a smart, sideline-to-sideline playmaker who excels against the run, navigating traffic and wrapping up tackles, but is also comfortable and confident dropping back into coverage or bringing pressure. Butler earned all-state honors in Class 5A as a senior with 71 tackles, including nine for loss and three sacks, and a long fumble recovery.
33. Traville Frederick Jr. Traville Frederick Jr. 6'3" | 240 lbs | TE Jeanerette | 2024 State LA — 6-3, 240 TE — Jeanerette (Houston)
One of the key faces and leaders for a resurgent Jeanerette program that reached its first quarterfinal in decades, the one-time Tulane commit received interest from SEC programs during his recruitment before ultimately sticking with coach Willie Fritz and other now-former Green Wave staffers and flipping to Houston. Frederick is a big athlete — impressively fluid at his size — with great hands as a receiving threat, but also the physicality and willingness to be a consistent and reliable blocker at the next level.
32. Jayden Scott Jayden Scott 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Archbishop Shaw | 2024 State LA | 6-4, 240 DL | Archbishop Shaw (Grambling State)
The one-time Tulane commitment saw his recruitment stall some this fall as he worked through an injury, but he remains one of the highest-ranked defensive line prospects in our final rankings and one of the biggest potential steals for a Grambling State program that has some strong candidates in that category. Scott has good size — with some college coaches even mentioning possibly growing him into a defensive tackle — and an explosive get-off and closing speed, plus the levels of maturity and passion to inspire confidence in his potential to not only return to his pre-injury form, but further develop toward his ceiling at the next level.
31. Joseph Cryer Joseph Cryer 6'4" | 290 lbs | OL Natchitoches Central | 2024 State LA | 6-4, 290 OL | Natchitoches Central (LSU)
The LSU-committed offensive lineman holds fairly steady in our final rankings for the class after a strong senior season at a new school where he had the consistent opportunity to compete in Louisiana’s highest classification level. Cryer is one of the state’s top handful of senior prospects in the position group with a big frame and the nasty streak and consistency finishing his blocks that standout among his peers.
