Multiple Battle sponsored teams as well as independent teams from around the state were in attendance to get that work. From pool play to bracket play there were plenty of big plays and athletes showcasing their talents. It was a great weekend and a well run tourney. I was able to catch up with a few of the underclassmen that stood out to me.
Caleb balled out this weekend in San Antonio throwing multiple touchdowns to a few different receivers. This young man has great field vision as he was able to check down from his first and second reads when needed. He also has plenty of arm strength to take the top of the defense which Caleb showed in numerous games.
Tano is a big bodied, big play receiver. He showed out this weekend making high-point catches, snatching the ball in traffic and just, straight up, running past defenders on go routes. A very exciting young man to watch this upcoming freshman season.
Avery Hildebrand
Avery Hildebrand
Avery is a good sized 5th grader from San Antonio, but he plays well beyond his age. He has a big arm and is able to go over top, but thrives on timing and underneath routes. He sees the field well and allows the routes to develop in order to make the proper throws. Hildebrand will be a name you’ll be seeing in the coming years.
Josiah McNeil
Josiah McNeil
Josiah’s footwork and route running ability were on full display this weekend. He has an innate ability to get in and out of breaks to create separation. I witnessed this a few times this weekend allowing him to see the end zone on a few occasions. McNeil doesn’t allow the ball to get into his body and uses his hands well.
Bradley Smith
Bradley Smith
Bradley has great touch on his ball. His ball placement and patience are scarce in his age group, but he has an uncanny ability to march the ball down field. He looked off defenders on various occasions in order to create a throwing lane for completions. These attributes translated to quite a few TD’s this weekend.
