This year, the roster expanded to nearly 50 QBs across the Midwest. I’ve identified 5 underclassmen (27s/28s) that I think are on the fast track to becoming high-level prospects. Enjoy!
Thor Soukup Thor Soukup 6'1" | 205 lbs | QB Maple Grove | 2027 MN 6’1″ 200 lbs Maple Grove 2027
It’s not often you see a freshman QB competing against kids who are regarded among the top prospects at a camp, and it’s even rarer when they succeed like Soukup has. He’s built like a truck and boasts similar arm talent to the upperclassmen he was competing against. Soukup has solid throwing mechanics and footwork but stands out with his maturity in the pocket. There’s no way you’d guess by watching him play that he’ll be a sophomore next fall.
Osborne Lorenz 6’2″ 200 lbs Mankato Westo 2027
Another freshman who does not look his age, Lorenz performed like he had multiple years of high school football experience. He hit a series of impressive back-shoulder fades early on, and particularly surprised me with the amount of zip he could put on the ball. Lorenz was competing amongst some of the talents at the camp, and he was able to go step-for-step with most of them throughout the day. Physically, there’s no way you’d guess he’s a freshman either. Mankato West graduated their QB last season, so it’s possible Lorenz snags the starting role as a sophomore.
Beckham Van Voorst 6′ 185 lbs Minneapolis South 2027
Van Voorst was actually the starter for Minneapolis South last season as a freshman, and he already looks drastically different as a prospect. It was already very impressive that Van Voorst started as a freshman for a AAAA program that saw some success, but the fact that he already looks more polished in the 4-5 month span since the season ended is crazy. His ability to sling the rock has never been in question, Van Voorst can air out deep posts and fades with the best of them. To me, the area he improved was in his ball placement. He consistently hits receivers in or around the numbers. Expect big things from him in his sophomore year.
Iggy Amorrortu Iggy Amorrortu 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Minnetonka Middle West | 2028 MN 6′ 185 lbs Holy Family 2028
I don’t think I could say enough nice things about Amorrortu’s performance on Saturday. Out of all of the athletes in the “young guy” group, he was clear and by far the most polished and the most talented. There wasn’t a pass he struggled to make and as an 8th grader outthrew some upperclassmen. His ball placement is already stellar and he puts great touch on every pass. Amorrortu recently announced that he would be attending Holy Family to start his high school career, with their QB recently graduating, it’s easy to imagine that he could come in and compete for a starting job right away.
Reed Creighton 5’11” 135 lbs Belle Plaine 2028
The only other incoming freshman to round out our list today, Creighton is someone whose stock has been continuously rising this offseason. His frame needs to be filled out, but the little details and mechanics are there. He can sling the rock from a variety of funky positions and puts solid zip on it when needed. Creighton’s footwork is quick and excellent for someone his age. He’s very comfortable hitting short to mid-level routes, and the ball releases from his hands quite rapidly. Pay attention to Creighton over the next couple of years.
