Continue ReadingNew Jersey has consistently put out running backs that have stood the test of time. Three of these studs are from South Jersey, and two from the shore area. Each player is evaluated by vision, speed, power, balance, ball skills/security and big play making ability. I chose not to use the number grading system for when I rank the Top backs in all of Jersey. Take a look and see who has the goods to apply pressure as a puppy next season.
Johnny Chirico Johnny Chirico 5’6″ | 155 lbs | RB NJ – 5’6, 155 lbs.
RB Type: All-Purpose
Vision- Sees the field really well. Keeps eyes to the horizon and naturally finds a way to get upfield with urgency.
Speed- Good enough burst to consistently put pressure on second level. Solid returner that can get you to the 40 yard line.
Power- Has a muscular build with a wrestler background. Fights for additional yardage using his lower half to seek out yacs.
Balance- Does well after contact. Shields off defenders to keep feet clean.
Ball Skills/Security- Switches ball to outside arm to utilize weapon often. Catches the ball good when needed.
BPA: Big Play Ability- Plays with passion and will scrap for any extra inch
Highlights
Jay Nelson Jay Nelson 5’8″ | 175 lbs | RB NJ – 5’8, 160 lbs.
RB Type: All-Purpose
Vision- Runs with his eyes. His change of direction in traffic is proof of being able to see the field and react in a way that puts tacklers in bad positions.
Speed- Not sure of certified times, but I put money up it’s rare to see him caught in space.
Power- Will lower shoulder and split two not losing any momentum.
Balance- Low hips and center of gravity allows Jay to do his thing. Very good coordination and agility.
Ball Skills/Security-.Conscience of defender attack angles, and protects the ball as a priority
BPA: Big Play Ability- He can get little at any time and shake a leg all the way to the end zone. Has a plethora of tricks in his bag.
RB Type: All-Purpose
Vision- Plays very fast but can see things open up on the move
Speed- 0 to 60 real quick. Soon as the ball is exchange, Figueroa is full go!
Power- Frame of a every down back, and has enough strength to come out successful in short yardage situations
Balance- Gifted. Makes everyone accountable with every movement. Uses body language to set up tacklers
Ball Skills/Security-.Aware of when to put two hands on it. Has ability to be big part in passing game
BPA: Big Play Ability- Speed kills and he can stretch the field laterally and horizontally
Trey Alexander III Trey Alexander III 5’9″ | 170 lbs | RB NJ – 5’9, 170 lbs
RB Type: All-Purpose
Vision- Patience is a by product of trusting what you see. Trey trust his instincts and takes the side door when available.
Speed- Long slashing strides that blows through the defense if you let him get going
Power- Will lower the boom and not think twice. Body of a high schooler right now.
Balance- Decent. Does a pretty good job staying on half a man especially on the edge
Ball Skills/Security-Pure athlete
BPA: Big Play Ability- The right scheme and the right amount of touches. He can put up numbers.
Highlights
Ca’Si Thomas Ca’Si Thomas 5’9″ | 160 lbs | RB NJ – 5’9, 160 lbs
RB Type: All-Purpose
Vision- At his best when getting downhill and keeping shoulders square to see entire field
Speed- Smooth and fast.
Power- Fights through arm tackles and will try to push a pile
Balance- Great leverage when the only way is through. Keeps feet.
Ball Skills/Security- Slippery if utilized more underneath and in screen game. Plays to his strengths.
BPA: Big Play Ability- With the right pieces around him. He will develop into a playmaker on Friday nights.
