Continue ReadingConnor is an interesting prospect that I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about. He’s a physical linebacker that has all the speed in the world to make huge plays. He is a sure tackler that never gives up on the play. He has a high motor and can flat out harass offenses from anywhere on the field. He is a versatile player as well, as he can drop back into pass coverage comfortably, and can line up and take some offensive reps at the TE position. Overall, I am super high on the potential he has and think you should get to know more about him!
Let’s get into this Q&A with Connor!
What are the positions you play, and what other positions have you played?
I play outside linebacker, which is my primary position. I also played tight end along with safety some games last year throughout some games. Growing up I played offensive line and defensive line.
How did 2023 go personally for you on the football field?
2023 personally for myself on the field was great! My sophomore year I didn’t play much but was on the varsity squad and learned a ton. My offseason going into my junior year I worked my tail off every day, lifting before and after school, which translated on the field, leading my team in tackles.
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of football?
I enjoy working out, watching basketball and football, and going to the beach!
What about your mentality has made you the player you are today?
My mentality is simple. I love to win and I will do anything to achieve that goal. When I put my mind to something, I need to win, whatever it is I’m doing. I am a competitor.
What are your strengths on the football field?
My strengths on the field are my physicality along with my speed. I can make a play quick or I can chase a player 50 yards down the field and make a tackle. I am a versatile athlete that can play pretty much anywhere on defense.
What are your weaknesses on the football field?
My weakness is probably my weight. That is an area almost every high school athlete can improve on. Simply because you do not know what your true potential is at.
Is there someone you’ve modeled your game after?
I’ve always tried to be like my older brother, Landon VanBeek, on the field. He was a monster at defensive end and played with a ton of heart. Never giving up, and giving 100% no matter the score.
How do you think the competition in the OK Conference has made you better?
The competition in the OK-Red is probably the best in the state. I love it. It fuels me to be the best at my position in the conference. I love the saying, “To be the best, you have to beat the best.”
What are your personal goals for 2024?
My personal goals for 2024 starts with helping to lead my team to the playoffs. As well, I want to have an 80 tackle season. I want to win. I want to win as many games as possible.
What do you think we should know about you that we may not know?
Something to know about me is I love to battle adversity that is brought in front of me. I love to overcome challenges. I love to work hard and I love to be a part of a firm program.
