February is coming to an end. The month where we see the most commitment activity across the country and in Wisconsin. Colleges have done a great job recruiting Wisconsin this season. The vast majority of our top athletes have signed with their desired college programs and several FBS commits are already on campuses. However, our rankings here at PRZ WI still have several athletes looking for that next level home. I want to highlight a few of my favorites from this past season that could be steals for D2/D3 programs.
We start with one of the top DBs in WI. Eric Kenesie Eric Kenesie 5’11” | 160 lbs | DB St. Joseph Catholic Academy | 2024 State WI is currently tearing up gyms on the basketball court, but this fall he was locking down receivers on the gridiron. Eric is a high IQ safety who made a lot of plays because of how quickly he could read the react. His speed gives him a major boost too, giving his DC the chance to play single high with him roaming the back half of the defense. The senior also has natural ball skills and is dangerous as a returner of INTs and punts. Kenesie should have options to play basketball or football at the next level. Don’t sleep on him any longer. The film is linked below. Take a look.
Another steal is the 6’1″ 230 lbs ILB out of Verona. Tre is a versatile LB prospect. He blitzes with his hair on fire. Showing an effective burst to hit gaps freely and close on the QB right away. Against the run we see him flow with the play and pursue aggressively. Grignon also shows some versatility to his game, being able to drop into a zone over the middle or spy the QB and corral them when they look to scramble. Check out his tape vs a very good Middleton offense.
This is a raw prospect, but his ceiling is as high as any player still available in WI. He has an elite frame at 6’6″ 240 lbs. We have seen him put on 20 lbs, so I don’t see an issue getting him to the size needed to play OT at the next level. On tape, Malvitz has impressive feet and overall agility to get into a position of leverage on level one or to get to level two and hit his target. Matthew has the power needed to move the line of scrimmage with his blocking of DLs. Matthew also brings position versatility, standing out at DE.
An intriguing TE prospect comes to us from northern WI. Maccoy Holmquist Maccoy Holmquist 6’4″ | 215 lbs | TE Lakeland Union | 2024 State WI is a 6’4″ 215 lbs TE with the traits needed to play the position at the collegiate level. Despite the frame, Maccoy is blessed with the balance, feet, and agility to be a smooth route runner. He glides through his routes, and with the speed he has forces DBs into tough situations trying to run with him and stay in position where they can fight for the ball. The senior does ag great job of finding the soft spots in zone coverage as well. I like the potential mismatch here. Don’t overlook the northern WI gem.
Highlights
We end with a highly productive RB out of Kewaunee HS. Owen has been a solid contributor and big play threat in the past, but watching him with a big workload was impressive to watch as he piled up monster numbers and wins with his team. Carlson is an efficient runner. He is always moving forward and gaining yards. In the backfield he is primarily a one cut runner who finds his aiming point and attacks it. He has the vision to find the seam if one opens up early or if he has to find a new path. The long speed allows him to beat angles and win in open space. He has a knack for making the highlight reel run look easy. He also possesses a strong burst through the trenches. Teams have to give this kid a look. He is a difference maker.
