Continue ReadingThe Catholic League is home to several of the most storied programs in Michigan. The current Catholic AA houses three in-state programs that have state championship aspirations and a newcomer from Ohio showing promise. This article features 9 new prospects from Divine Child, UofD Jesuit, and Jackson Lumen Christi.
’25 C | Cody Szostek | Divine Child | Hudl
It’s unfortunate that Cody isn’t a bit taller because he could be a college prospect if he were. He’s a solid Varsity starter who gets great pad level and leverage in his blocks. He has a few solid pancakes that show off some strength. With his height, I think Cody’s highest potential lies in being a defensive tackle. In order for him to succeed in that position, he needs to bulk up while focusing on stamina and strength.
’25 S | Blake Englert Blake Englert 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH Divine Child | 2025 State MI | Divine Child | Hudl
Blake is primarily a safety but also sometimes lines up as an EDGE type. I like his film more when he’s lined up on-ball than off-ball. When he’s on-ball, he shows good instincts and willingness to stop the run. He sets a good edge and wraps up on his tackles. As a Safety, he looks a tad more timid in the run game and his pass coverage is not yet proven. At this point I think Blake is a solid varsity starter, and he could be a NAIA prospect with a good offseason.
’25 G | Luke Jordan Luke Jordan 6'4" | 245 lbs | OL Divine Child | 2025 MI | Divine Child | Hudl
Luke is another great varsity starter, and you’ve got to love his size at 6’4″ 230. He’s good blocking at the line of scrimmage, especially with basic down/gap blocks. He does a great job at engaging in all run blocks and moving his defender out of the way. He’s also quite agile and is able to pull and get to the second level. He’s a good lead blocker, but I’d love to see that aspect improved a bit. His pass blocking is also unproven. If he’s able to put in some extra work this off-season, Luke could be a solid college prospect.
’26 DB | Brandon Williams Jr | UofD Jesuit | Hudl
Brandon’s film is relatively short and features a lot of scrimmage highlights, but I do see some potential. He has some good breaks on the ball, is a solid coverage player, and shows off a bit of athleticism. Brandon may be a full-time varsity starter next season, and I could see him taking a big leap.
’25 WR | Dante Banks | UofF Jesuit | Hudl
Banks is a solid possession WR. Lining up on the outside, he’s the target on a few passes out to the flat while sometimes being an option in the middle of the field and downfield. He’s a solid pass catcher who’s had his moments during the 2023 season. Though, I’d love to see Dante improve with his YAC ability. He’s had a lot of opportunities to make plays in the open field, and I hope he’s able to improve his athleticism and vision so he’s able to make the most of those chances. If he’s able to do that, Dante could be a college prospect soon.
’25 WR/LB | Jordan Hearns | UofD Jesuit | Hudl
Jordan is a good receiver who does his best work in the slot, running to the middle of the field. He’s able to find some soft spots in zone coverage, usually in the middle of the field. Once he catches the ball, his eyes immediately look upfield. Jordan also has solid vision in the open field. There’s also promise with his contested catch ability. Defensively, he switches between on-ball, off-ball, outside, and middle linebacker. He has great versatility at the position, and he plays with good grit and physicality. Jordan has a lot of promising traits, and I hope he’s able to bring everything together for his Senior season.
’25 DT | Yasir Lewis Yasir Lewis 5'10" | 245 lbs | DL UofD Jesuit | 2025 State MI | UofD Jesuit | Hudl
Yasir is a good defensive tackle who could be great next season. His film shows a decent ability to anchor himself, plugging up running lanes. He has active hands that are effective in the few pass rush reps shown in his tape. His getoff is decently explosive as well. The size at 5’10” 245 is great for a defensive tackle, and next season I’d love to see him utilize his strength more. I’d also like to see him develop a good motor- which can’t be done without being extremely fit. If he’s able to do all of that, he’s easily a Division 3 prospect.
’25 LB/RB | Cassius Griffin Cassius Griffin 5'10" | 210 lbs | LB Lumen Christi | 2025 State MI | Lumen Christi | Hudl
Cassius is an extremely promising off-ball middle linebacker. Pre-snap and early in the play, his eyes are always in the backfield reading the QB and RB. Once the ball is handed off, he does a great job working through blocks to get to the ballcarrier. If it’s an outside run away from him, he’s able to work laterally, move through traffic, and catch the RB as he’s trying to cut back. He also reacts extremely well to play action, and is quick to switch into pass coverage. He is for sure a Division 3 prospect as a linebacker and could work his way to D2 potential if he can improve his strength, and athleticism and show out at some off-season camps.
’26 DT | Antwon Baker | Lumen Christi | Hud
Antwon is a PROBLEM as an interior defensive lineman. First off, he’s explosive and extremely quick off the line of scrimmage. He’s so quick that he sometimes completely outpaces the O-Line, giving him a free lane into the backfield. He’s also powerful enough to drive back opposing linemen, completely wrecking the play. During pass reps he has very active hands and excels in speed moves. This is a well-rounded, high-motor interior defensive lineman who has the opportunity to be a high-tier D2 or even a Division 1 prospect in the future.
