There were nearly 60 kids from AYF-sanctioned teams that were selected and showed up to the prestigious event. Here are the top Quarterbacks and Specialist that stood out to me from watching the three practices.
Rubley obviously has the stature (6’2 , 175) and the genes to be a Division 1 QB. But over the three practices I watched, I got to see just how good he really is. You don’t need to spend much time watching him to see the talent he already has as an 8th grader. Powerful and accurate is the first thing that comes to mind when watching him. Every ball he throws is where it needs to be and it goes fast. Very mature and a leader of the offense from what I watched at practice taking coaching and working with his receivers to be successful on game day.
- Tall pro style QB
- NFL Genes from Dad/ D1 older brother
- Powerful / accurate throws
- Leader / vocal
Highlights
Koutsakis might have been the shortest QB at AYF All Stars but he definitely was the most versatile out of all the Quarterbacks being elite in the air and on his feet. Very good at making throws on the run but can still sit in the pocket and throw darts. He’s able to get the ball out very quick from what I watched at practice. I saw a few plays where he made some moves with his legs that stood out to me as well.
- Accurate throws
- Great mechanics
- Pretty deep ball
- Can use his legs well
Walker was the only QB for the East team so I was able to take a good look at him primarily while watching team East practice. Walker was the most athletic QB, as he plays some safety as well. He has speed and agility that could easily allow him to play multiple positions in high school. Also has good size to him being 5’10 , 165.
- Athletic QB
- Gets the job done with throws
- good deep ball
Fuentes was the best kicker I saw throughout the three practices. Plain and simple, he’s an elite kicker that has a strong leg and is extremely accurate. Very good with kickoffs and field goals. Told me he’s most likely going to Bishop Gorman in the fall which is one of the best high school programs not only in Nevada but the entire country.
- Strong leg
- Very accurate kicks
- great height and distance with field goals
