We've got 5 talented recruits in the 2027 class who seem to be just scratching the surface of what they can do on a football field. With year 1 in the books, these 5 could have big years this fall.

The WR you should be eyeing for the 2027 class as potentially the top pass catcher is right here. There are a handful of boxes he checks immediately. The size, length, speed, and ability to play receiver. Having the traits to be good, and being good, are 2 simply different things. Moore showed right away this year that he's talented and is a name that will be making plays for years to come. He's got an incredible catch radius and is simply a fantastic athlete. He's a bit raw, but he's got all the tools to be as good as he wants to be. He's got a fantastic vertical and goes up and over DBs with ease. He times his jumps well and gives his QB a big target downfield. He's not afraid to be aggressive at the point of catch and fight for the ball. He understands he's got the right to the ball and goes up after it. He was a big play guy for them last year and alongside 1 of the best WR recruits in the nation, produced as a true freshman. 430 yards and 2 TDs for Moore rounded out the year, but that's just the very beginning for the talented receiver from the Fort.

[player_tooltip player_id='1015480' first='Masyn' last='Chalfant'] - Tri Highschool - RB - 6'0" 175lbs

Chalfant was well on his way to one of the more impressive freshman seasons out of anyone in the state until an injury forced him to sit out the 2nd half of the season. We only got 3.5 games from Chalfant, but his flash was fantastic and worth bringing back up as we head into the spring sessions. We covered him after the first 3 weeks where he was coming off of a 237-yard and 3-TD performance, and then the following week is where he got dinged up and had to miss due to injury. While missing the games may not have been what he wanted, it was clear through the first 3 weeks of the season that he was on his way to being the focal point of the offense. He's a thicker back, especially for his age, and can run through contact, has good overall balance, and follows his blockers. The last one sounds so simple, but it's amazing how many backs won't trust their line and always try to bounce it outside. He was off to a hot start and if he stayed healthy, he'd be one of the top names in the class. However, it'll be up to him next year to stay healthy and showcase that he can be a top back in the class because so far Chalfant is as dynamic as anyone when on the field.

[player_tooltip player_id='1184924' first='Ben' last='Maxey'] - Zionsville - OL - 6'4" 265lbs

Getting a decent amount of work on the JV squad, Maxey looks to be a promising upcoming tackle. He's got a great lengthy build that he needs to grow into. As he develops in the weight room over the next few years he should begin to stabilize a line. He's a bit light on his feet right now, but that's where the weight room will come in handy. He's got the length to make first contact and his feet are soft enough to set a base and gain depth in the passing game. He's not perfect, but the potential is there. He's fairly good on the move as well and can be a Tackle who leads screens down the field. With his length and size, I don't see him moving to the inside, but you never know. He was good on the outside last year for the younger squad and if he can take a step forward, I know Zionsville will have some openings upfront and Maxey is the perfect guy to step in and take over, assuming he's ready.

[player_tooltip player_id='1184923' first='Eli' last='Exline'] - Danville - ATH - 6'0" 175lbs

Exline is a solid overall athlete who will likely see the field on both sides of the ball, but his freshman year was focused on the defensive side. He's got good stride length and can cover a large chunk of land in a hurry. He's not going to jump on double moves and read his keys. He gets downhill in a hurry and can impact the running game as well. He's explosive enough that he could blitz from the backend late and be the one to make the play. Most of the plays he made this year were him cleaning up the mess. He does a good job making the open-field tackle and not letting the ball carrier go. All but 8 of his tackles were solo this year, but more than that it seemed like he was always near the ball as the season progressed. With 34 tackles, an interception, 6 passes broken up, and 2 fumbles recovered it seems like he's got the nose for the big play. Exline is exciting and all of this fails to mention what he could possibly do on the offensive side of the ball down the road. Time will tell with Exline, but his freshman year was certainly promising.

[player_tooltip player_id='1184925' first='Josiah' last='Horton'] - Merrillville - DL - 6'1" 180lbs

After wrapping up a solid freshman year, Horton could be a guy who becomes a mainstay for Merrillville's defense for years to come. He's a bit light for the front trenches right now, but he's got time and even while being as light as he is now, was on the field making plays. He's built like a LB and runs like one, but seems to have such a high motor that allowing him to attack the LOS is what's best. He's able to shed blocks and make an arms tackle. His snap timing is decent for a younger player as well, so he's in the backfield quite a bit. He's got the stride length to go sideways and run down the ball carrier and help contain the edge. With 22 tackles and 8 TFLs on the year, he has to be looking for more next year. If he hits the weight room and continues playing with the same energy and motor, Horton could really take off this fall.
