We continue to identify more and more senior talent who are looking for their college home. It seems like we are seeing a new commitment or two every day. We looked at the Top 5 yesterday. Today, we look at the next wave of talent that I highly recommend college coaches continue to look into. There are plenty of steals still on the board. Don’t sleep on these dudes.
Zach wins at the HS level with unfair athleticism. The 6′ 180 lbs WR has next level speed that allows him to eat up cushions, stack DBs, and pull away from the fields s he reels in passes in stride. Zach also plays with excellent acceleration out of breaks. The senior tracks the ball in the air and is able to adjust to put himself in position to get his hands on it and bring it in. The athletic mismatch is one of the top WRs in WI, committed or uncommitted.
Highlights
Damarcus is one of my favorite edge defenders. He doesn’t have elite length, and that may force him into an off-ball LB role, but the athletic traits can’t be questioned. Damarcus has exceptional burst/acceleration out of his stance and when closing on the ball. Chappell has developed very effective hand fighting moves that allowed him to get the hands of the OL down, and from there it was easy for him to get past them and to the ball. The subtle lateral agility further makes him a difficult man to block and stay in front of. There are plenty of tools to work with here.
Highlights
Another standout WR is senior Thad Hoffman. He has prototypical size at 6’2″ 190 lbs and that frame is packed with strength. He is able to elevate and high point the ball. His hands are strong to make catches through contact. That size and strength also make him an impact as a downfield run blocker. Once he clamps his hands onto DBs he drives them where he wants to Thad is smooth through his breaks as well and has a solid base of route running to continue to develop. Don’t sleep on the WR.
Tevyn is a fullback to know in this Class. He is a compact, powerful 5’10” 225 lbs. Tevyn brings the versatility of being an impact blocker and ball carrier. As a ball carrier, Tevyn is a north-south runner with powerful leg drive and consistently plays behind his pads to break tackles, move the pile, and create yards after contact. As a blocker, Tevyn’s leg drive and leverage allow him to dig LBs out of running lanes. He is agile while engaged to prevent him from slipping off the block. Tevyn also has past experience as an LB. Check him out.
Martez is another edge defender who while he lacks the elite length for the position the senior has the athletic tools to have a role at the next level. Martez is 6’1″ 220 lbs, has a solid get off at the snap. We see that he is able to bend and dip under OTs. Jones has the balance and body control to be able to make 90 degree turns in his rush path to get to the QB quick. The senior also has the lateral agility to mirror ball carriers in space to wrap them up, and he has the range and motor to make the effort plays or chase down plays.
