The competitive spirit within the defensive line creates an environment where players are eager to assert themselves as top prospects. These showcases play a vital role in identifying and nurturing talent, with standout performers likely to emerge as influential figures in Friday night football games. The event becomes a crucial stepping stone for these young athletes, laying the foundation for potential success in their future football careers. We discuss several camp day standouts who came out to Texas and balled out.
Moore was one of the top three best defensive linemen to line up at the PRZ Next UP Showcase. During the one on one drills he excelled, showing speed and explosion at the snap, for a young player he has good hip bend and he is able to contort his body to run the arch straight to the quarterback. Moore is relentless, he plays with a high motor and he is active thru the whistle. While he may have been one of the youngest trench warriors to put his hand in the dirt, Moore has the skill set to be dominant. After watching some of his middle school cut ups from the fall, Moore has the athletic prowess to play multiple positions. He lines at running back, as well as linebacker and brings the heat. Moore will be making plays on Friday nights in the near future.
Highlights
Jesse has a long, athletic frame that he uses to his advantage to keep blockers from getting into his chest. He showed off his nimble feet and quickness early on in the individual footwork drills. Wyatt II plays with a mean streak, he has a motor that doesn’t stop and he plays thru the whistle. Jesse uses his hands well and he knows how to swipe off blockers at engagement. After watching clips of his fall tape, Jesse showed his explosion at the snap and that he has a nose for the football. He pushed the pocket well and closes on the ball carrier with good speed. As he continues to mature and develop, look for his game to elevate.
Highlights
Gee has an extended reach, he uses his length to gain leverage early against his opponents and he gets a powerful push to stun blockers early at engagement. He has a powerful lower trunk that enables him to drive blockers backwards, pushing the pocket and Gee knows how to close like a hawk on the quarterback. His 6’0 225 pound frame easily overpowers average players in his class, as he fully demonstrated on his highlights from his fall season. He is disruptive, plays with excellent pad level, which enables him to live in his opponents backfield. Gee shows the potential to be a dominant force as his game and stature matures.
Highlights
Naupoto was aggressive at the snap with an explosive burst off of the line scrimmage and he has the speed to beat his opponent off the edge. Simione has a stout, thick build with broad shoulders and he has a powerful lower trunk. At engagement, he uses excellent leverage and his violent hands enabled him to stun his competition with a stiff blow. After watching his 8th grade regular season highlights, Naupoto showed that he is an explosive athlete!!! He was a beast on both sides of the football, lining up at running back, punishing defenders with his power, blowing by them with his speed, making several house calls and separating at the second level with ease. Defensively, he caused havoc from all angles, lining up at all three linebacker positions and rushing the passer off the edge. Simione is just scratching the surface. I expect him to shine on Friday nights real soon. His high school coaches will find a way to get him on the field.
Highlights
Rogers has an extended wingspan, he was extremely agile in the footwork drills during the individual period and he showed that he has some athleticism in his game. Brecklin used good leverage during the one on one portion versus the offensive line and he was able to make a few adjustments on site from the coaching he received. Rogers is a hustler and the more he matures you can expect his game to elevate.
Bryon was one the top three defensive linemen to get active at the PRZ Next UP Middle School Showcase. He is powerful, strong at the point of attack, he has broad shoulders and good arm length that he used to his advantage to stun blockers in the one on one drills. He is explosive off of the ball, he used his quickness to win multiple reps and he was more than a handful for anyone who stepped up to do battle. Already standing at 6’1 220 pounds, Bryon has the strength to impose his will on whoever lines up in front of him. Thompson Jr. had the attention of the coaching staff from the first snap and he also excelled in the testing portion, showing off good speed and agility. Byron has the make up a disruptive force in the trenches who is going to be on a high school field on Friday nights giving offenses fits for the next few years.
