Today, I’m looking at which offensive and defensive linemen are flying under the radar. These young men showed an immense amount of upside on tape, but are still developing. Look for them to take a big step this fall.
As always, If you have someone you think I need to see, please DM them to me on Twitter at @hsfbscout!
DL: Derrick Gleason, 6’1″ 270, North Crowley
Can gobble up opposing double teams to allow linebackers to roam free at the second level. Derrick has the strength to sit back and anchor down and plays with compact/well-trained hands, slapping away a punch from opposing offensive linemen. This kid is a tough man to block 1 on 1 and uses pure power & quickness for immediate disruption.
OL: Leshem Nyantee Leshem Nyantee 6'3" | 225 lbs | OL Anna | 2027 TX 6’3″ 230, Anna
Leshem does need to add weight, but he’s got quick feet, he keeps his shoulders square to the line in pass protection and can open his hips & kick back against opposing speed rushers. He plays with good hand placement and has a bit of a nasty side to his game that can be further developed.
OL: Brayden Wood Brayden Wood 6'3" | 270 lbs | OL Denton Braswell | 2027 State TX 6’4″ 270, Braswell
Was a standout at the lower levels that showed heavy hands, impressive grip strength to latch on, and good body control to maintain second-level blocks. He plays tackle right now, but I think he projects as more of a guard at the next level.
DL: Tymon Meeks Tymon Meeks 6'0" | 265 lbs | DL Aledo | 2027 State TX 6′ 270, Aledo
Meeks is the definition of being able to put speed to power and can easily push the pocket. He’s got natural knee bend & rockets out of his stance on a rise. He’s got the hands and strength to easily shed blocks at the point of attack and is sporty enough to kick outside as a five-technique and rush the passer.
DL: Carter James, 6′ 240, Arlington Heights
An extremely twitchy interior defensive lineman whose speed can provide major issues on the inside. James is a menace against the run, he will immediately stack offensive linemen after beating them post-snap and does a quality job retracing in his rush lane if he gets too far up the field.
