That’s not by mistake. We focus a lot on the South Carolina High School League schools but the players from SCISA are making impacts on the collegiate level. You will see more and more names jump into the rankings as we evaluate more players this spring and summer. But here is a list of guys that have not only caught our eye but also the eyes of the college recruiters.
James Herbert James Herbert 6'4" | 215 lbs | LB Trinity Collegiate | 2025 State SC LB, Trinity Collegiate – Herbert is our highest ranked SCISA player in the 2025 rankings at No. 13 overall and the No. 2 linebacker in the class. He registered 101 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and added three forced fumbles and an interception from his outside linebacker/edge spot. He added 13 catches for 134 yards and three touchdowns as a tight end. But defense is Herbert’s calling. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder sheds blocks well and is able to read the play quickly and uses a burst to get the ball-carrier.
Mike Tyler Mike Tyler 6'4" | 220 lbs | TE Hammond | 2025 State SC TE, Hammond – Tyler is a guy that is pulling in Power 5 offers all over the place. Cincinnati was one of the first to offer but North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia, Virgina Tech, Wake Forest and West Virgina have all since offered the 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end. If Tyler shows more consistency, his ceiling is unlimited. He’s extremely athletic and can make difficult catches in traffic. He blocks well and runs good routes. His 32-yard game-winning catch in the Class 4A SCISA title game was a thing of beauty.
JJ Fludd JJ Fludd 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Porter-Gaud | 2025 State SC RB, Porter-Gaud – The 6-foot, 180-pound Fludd ran for over 2,200 yards and 37 touchdowns in 12 games last season. Fludd is somewhat od an old-school back where he mainly operates out of a two-back system for the Cyclones. Not many people will catch him when he gets in the open field but maybe the most impressive thing about Fludd is he runs behind his pads and uses a solid stiff-arm to separate him from defenders. He’s also a threat in the return game.
Austyn Grady Austyn Grady 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Northwood Academy | 2025 State SC QB, Northwood Academy 6’1” 190 – The numbers are eye-popping for the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder. He threw for 2,767 yards and 24 touchdowns in leading the Chargers to a 6-5 record. He’s not much of a threat to run but he likes to stand in the pocket and find the open receiver downfield. He’s able to read coverages well and get the ball to the right person in the right spot. His top three receivers are returning so it wouldn’t be surprising if Grady throws for over 3,000 yards as a senior.
Branden Broadwater Branden Broadwater 5'9" | 150 lbs | ATH Carolina Academy | 2025 State SC ATH, Carolina Academy – Broadwater is a guy that rarely leaves the playing field. He only played in six games this past season but excels in coverage at defensive back, plays wide receiver and nearly all the special teams. He shows good hips and can turn and run with receivers. He’s likely a defensive player at the next level but plays well in the slot at receiver.
Will Axon Will Axon 6'5" | 235 lbs | DL Rabun Gap Nacoochee School | 2025 State SC DL, Porter-Gaud – The intangibles are all there for the 6-foot-5, 240-pound junior from the lowcountry. Axon was limited to seven games this past season due to injuries but still was able to account for over 40 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble. A full offseason in the weight room and camps will help but he’s already able to play defensive end or tackle. He’s comfortable with his hand on the ground and has the ability to read plays well.
