From testing times, to individual drills, to open field fits, and 1-on-1’s, each and every linebacker displayed great energy, skills, and athleticism. The following 5 linebackers stood out the most as they dominated every single rep that that took.
Matthias looked the part when walking into the Yard on Sunday for the WI Stock Up Showcase. He then proceeded to prove that he was the best of the group. The All-State senior linebacker from Two Rivers, who measured in at 6’0, 215 lbs, earned PRZ Linebacker MVP Honors during the camp. His footwork, athleticism, and ability to use leverage in both open field tackling drills and 1-on-1’s vs the running backs stood out above all the other linebackers. The uncommitted senior is sure to find a home soon after the season that he had this fall, as well as his impressive performance at the showcase.
The rising junior out of Rufus King High School flashed throughout the WI Stock Up Showcase. Vinson, a 6’1, 206 lbs linebacker, has a rare combination of size and athleticism that jumps out when seen in-person. Vinson is freakishly athletic, as he was the top coverage linebacker at the camp. He could run with every running back he faced in 1-on-1’s, showcasing his ability to carry vertical routes and move in and out of breaks on shorter throws. He also possesses tremendous ball skills. As Vinson stock is rising, don’t be surprised if he lands at Division I school after high school.
The tall and long linebacker from Harford Union impressed with his testing times and individual work throughout the WI Stock Up Showcase. The first thing that stood out about Meinerz was his frame. The 6’4, 178 lbs outside linebacker showcased quick footwork, smooth hips, and plus speed. His testing numbers jumped off the sheet. Meinerz ran a 4.82 40 yard dash, a 4.47 short shuttle, and jumped a 9’2 broad jump. He was flying around the field all day Sunday, making plays in 1-on-1’s and impressing during open-field tackling drills. Meinerz, a junior, is a hidden gem who is sure to gain some looks as he heads into the offseason before his senior campaign.
