Continue ReadingAfter years of coming close, Williamsburg won its first state championship this fall. The Raiders did so moving up a class after 2022, when they finished state runners-up in 2A.
A competitive 3A season saw fourth-seeded Sioux City Bishop Heelan upset No. 1 Creston in one state semifinal. Williamsburg avenged a regular-season setback to Solon by rolling the Spartans, 45-14, in the other semi. The Raiders shut out Heelan, 20-0, in the championship game.
This enrollment class proved to be deep with a lot of individual talent from the Mississippi to Missouri Rivers. It made pairing down to all-state teams challenging, but here’s what we came up with:
FIRST-TEAM
OFFENSE
Quarterback
Cael Turner Cael Turner 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Creston | 2024 IA , ’25, Creston
Turner led Creston to the Dome as the No. 1 seed with an outstanding junior campaign. He completed 63.7 percent of his passes, leading 3A in passing yards (2,993) and touchdowns (34) with only eight interceptions.
Running Back
Jaxon Cherry Jaxon Cherry 6'0" | 190 lbs | LB Webster City | 2024 State IA , ’24, Webster City
Cherry fits on the first-team all-state defense as well. We put him here after he led 3A in rushing yards (1,891) and touchdowns (26). He averaged 7.5 yards per carry.
Angelo Jackson Angelo Jackson 6'0" | 160 lbs | RB Assumption | 2024 IA , ’24, Davenport Assumption
The Knights relied heavily on Jackson, who racked up 1,345 yards (7.8 YPC) and 25 scores on the ground. He also caught two TDs.
Offensive Line
Grant Wilson, ’25, Solon
Wilson helped pave the way for a potent Spartan rushing attack as a dominant center.
Braden Plotz, ’24, Williamsburg
Plotz anchored a tough, physical front for the state champions.
Quinten Fuller Quinten Fuller 6'2" | 250 lbs | OL Creston | 2024 IA , ’24, Creston
Creston fielded a high-scoring offense with Fuller standing out on a talented front five.
Jeryn Funke, ’25, West Delaware
Funke shines with his physicality and high motor. That shows up on the other side of the ball as well.
Jake Trenary, ’24, Clear Lake
At 6-3, 225, Trenary is one of the better athletes you’ll find playing offensive line. He’s also stands out on defense.
Receiver/Tight End
Braylon Wetjen, ’24, Williamsburg
Wetjen was overshadowed at times on a talented team but was a big reason the Raiders won it all. He caught 38 passes for 804 yards (21.1 YPR) and 15 touchdowns. He also was one of the team’s top defenders, collecting six interceptions.
Evan Brase, ’24, Mount Vernon
The Mustang senior led 3A with 1,042 receiving yards in ’23. Twelve of his 60 catches were touchdowns. He averaged 17.4 yards per reception.
Brandon Briley, ’24, Creston
Briley shined in his final high school season. He hauled in 52 passes for 897 yards (17.3 YPR) and 13 touchdowns.
DEFENSE
Line
Thomas Meyer Thomas Meyer 6'5" | 210 lbs | ATH Clear Lake | 2025 State IA , ’25, Clear Lake

Jack Limbaugh Jack Limbaugh 6'4" | 225 lbs | ATH Algona | 2025 State IA , ’25, Algona
Also one of the state’s top 11th-graders, Limbaugh’s stats are somewhat suppressed by the attention he receives from opposing offenses. Still, he managed 3.0 sacks, 4.0 tackles for loss and freed up others to make plays.
Micah Lang, ’25, Williamsburg
Lang accumulated a 3A-best 14.5 sacks to go with 18.5 tackles for loss and 26 solo tackles for the champion Raiders.

Quinn Olson, ’24, Sioux City Bishop Heelan
Olson also played QB and was one of the class’s top two-way performers. On defense, he intercepted four passes with one being a Pick-6. He recorded 33.5 tackles (26).
Kyle Kingsbury, ’24, Nevada
Also a very productive receiver, Kingsbury intercepted five passes this fall with 31.5 tackles.

Calvin tied Wetjen for the 3A lead with six picks. He registered 35.5 (23 solo, 1.0 TFL).
