In particular, teams and athletes from the greater Los Angeles to San Diego areas took center stage. In the article below, take a look at some standouts from the San Diego Bolts 13U team and the Hub City 14U team. Both teams featured athletes who traveled across the country to participate–and they did not disappoint.
– Originally caught my eye on the offensive side of the ball as the right offensive tackle
– Watched him during warmups and into their game against the CYA Gators out of Philadelphia closely–changed my mind to loving him as a defensive end
– Looks like the complete package as a 3-4 defensive end with length to rush the passer but enough good weight to fight in the run game
– Served as team captain for the Hub City 14U team out of Compton, California
– Passed the eye test right away in terms of thickness and looking like a player to keep an eye on throughout the game/week
– Originally thought I’d see him line up on the interior defensive line because of his shorter, stockier build–but shined more as a defensive end
– NFL HOF’er Warren Sapp was the first name that came to mind while watching him play, despite him not being a defensive tackle
– I was surprised to see just how athletic he was as a stand up defensive end. Was able to shoot gaps quickly and defeat zone blocking schemes
– Absolutely massive and had the biggest combination of height and weight on the team
– Like my initial thoughts on his teammate Jeremiah Tahaafe Jeremiah Tahaafe DL CA , I originally liked Seu as an offensive tackle before changing my stance to liking him on defense
– Lined up at left offensive tackle and did well, but really shined on the defensive side of the ball in my eyes as a tackle
– Powerful initial burst that gained penetration with ease. Improving foot work will put him onto another level
– One of my favorite two-way linemen I saw the entire week down at AYF Nationals, bar none
– Bottom heavy kid that played with elite power on both sides of the ball
– As a defensive tackle he punished offensive linemen by getting off the ball before them and literally punching them in the mouth
– As a guard, where he really impressed me, he has exceptional feet. Pulled and led up into the hole faster than the majority of high school linemen i’ve seen
– Looked to be one of the leaders up front and led with action, rather than words
– Came with above average size for an offensive lineman at this level in terms of height and weight. Was third biggest on the team behind Jeremiah Tahaafe Jeremiah Tahaafe DL CA and Neysen Seu
– Played center exclusively in the bits of games that I saw, but would not be shocked to see him do well defensively as well
– While they didn’t score a staggering amount of points, Hub City was full of weapons. Sanchez looked to be in complete rhythm with quarterback Lincoln Jahn Lincoln Jahn 5’11” | 170 lbs | QB CA , repeatedly delivering the snaps without error
– Fits the mold of much of the other San Diego Bolts 13U linemen: shorter, thick and athletic
– One big muscle from the neck down, he overpowered a lot of guys who had several inches on him
– Defensively he attacked with the tenacity of a linebacker and didn’t stop until he brought down whoever had the ball
– Did a great job of disengaging from offensive linemen by using his hands and feet in tandem, to get off blocks
