He did it six more times on Friday night and tolled the end of the road for the Andrews Yellow Jackets.
Dobson strengthened his South Carolina Mr. Football candidacy with 288 yards and six scores on 28 carries as Hampton County stormed past visiting Andrews 48-14 in the second round of the SCHSL 2A playoffs. The ‘Canes will host Andrew Jackson next Friday in the Lower State semifinals.
It didn’t take long for Dobson to make his first statement of the night, showcasing his signature speed through a gaping hole up the middle for a 51-yard house call. He came right back at the Yellowjackets after a Hampton County kickoff recovery on a pooch kick. Dobson used his unrelenting strength and power to get his second score, surging through a swarm of Andrews defenders down the left sideline before powering through on brute strength across the goal line. The Yellowjackets found a counterpunch on an electric 82-yard run as AJ Lee burst down the left side through an unsuspecting Hurricane defense.
It was a quick wake-up call for a normally sound Hampton unit that eventually returned to its dominant form. Andrews rode the momentum to get a stop on a blocked punt, and the Jacket offense came up clutch on fourth down on a Zion Moyd connection to senior wideout Sharod Sumpter who used his long arms to extend and make the grab in stride to score and set up a game-tying two-point try.
But the close contest was short lived, as the Hurricanes scored 34 unanswered points to finish out the game, sparked by a terrific grab from Xaviar Garvin in one-on-one coverage with Sumpter. The former Estill standout made possibly his best play in a Hurricane jersey by leaping up and outdueling Sumpter for possession of the football, setting up Dobson’s third touchdown of the night from 27 yards out. Chris Terry did a bit of everything under center and showed off his escapabilty and quick legs with a highlight-reel 20-yard touchdown scamper. After quickly scanning downfield, Terry burst to the left side and turned on his wheels before hurdling a defender on his way to the end zone. He’s become an exemplary dual-threat quarterback who has impressed with his leadership and demeanor this season.
After a slow start, Hampton’s defense feasted the rest of the night and forced four fumbles to close the door on an Andrews comeback. The Hurricanes’ linebacking duo of Mandrell Sanders Mandrell Sanders 5'11" | 190 lbs | LB Hampton County | 2025 State SC , Malachi Green and Cody Segars Cody Segars 5'10" | 175 lbs | LB Hampton County | 2024 State SC proved to be the difference with outstanding pursuit to the football and tenacious physical tackling to wrap up ball-carries and help force the ball loose.
Ka’Von Chisolm was a gamebreaker up front and a matchup nightmare with his power and footwork to break through on his side of the line. Utility player Zamone Lofties impressed with his hustle and lateral quickness to help out in finishing tackles, and Dan Anderson delivered one of his best games yet with his nonstop strength and grit on the line.
Sharod Sumpter finished a strong senior campaign for the Andrews Yellowjackets, helping out on both sides of the ball with tight coverage and standout athleticism. On top of his versatile defensive performance, Sumpter added a 15-yard touchdown reception on a fluid route and a terrific arm extension to make the grab. Lee delivered the early spark on offense with an explosive touchdown run and exhibited his quick legs and balance to plow through tackles with 130 yards and a score on 17 attempts.
Junior Jacolby Sanders was noticeable up front and made it difficult for Hampton’s stellar offensive lineman to maintain their advantage. He’ll be a key anchor of a young defensive line going forward for Andrews alongside emerging sophomores Da’Viyon McNair and Chris Stewart Chris Stewart 6'5" | 200 lbs | DL Andrews | 2026 State SC .
