We have made it to the end of a great season where a ton of outstanding football was played by a lot of young men at the high school level. Below is the conclusion to some of the Section V Championship games that took place over this past week to close out the season.

Class AA: McQuaid Jesuit vs. University Prep Rochester

All season long, McQuaid Jesuit has been showing just how dominant of a powerhouse they are when they have been going up against schools. Once again, McQuaid proved it again in a 45 to 15 beat down when they took on University Prep Rochester during this Class AA Championship game. McQuaid did trail 7-0 early on in the ball game, but a 4-yard TD run by [player_tooltip player_id='527837' first='John' last='Harding'] did tie up the ball game to make it 7 all. Then much later in the ball game, Harding once again was able to score on 3 more TD runs to really put the ball game out of hand. One of the TD runs was a 3-yarder, and the other was much later in the 3rd quarter. That TD run in the 3rd quarter really put the ball game away, and it was a tough 13-yards to the end zone. The 13-yard run really showed the physicality that Harding has, especially when he lowered his shoulder to drive over his opponent to move a pile with him for 6 points. The last TD run by Harding was 18-yards, and University Prep simply was showing no answers to stopping the run game. The final dagger by McQuaid to take home the Class AA title was a 9-yard TD run by [player_tooltip player_id='527872' first='Eoin' last='Meyer'].

Class A: Brighton vs. East

Two teams that fought hard all year long. Both of these teams had outstanding rosters and players that stepped up to the challenge when their number was called. In the end, East High School was able to reign as Section V Class A Champions in a final score of 25 to 8 over Brighton High School. One of the star players of the game for East High School was [player_tooltip player_id='406845' first='Anthony' last='Diaz'], who once again was able to show up in a big-time way with an 85-yard interception return for a touchdown early in the game. For Brighton, they did have some positive plays, such as a fumble recovery in the second quarter by #11 [player_tooltip player_id='527859' first='Kieran' last='Hughes'] when they were down 14-0. This was a momentum changing play that then led to a 2-yard TD run by [player_tooltip player_id='307380' first='Tyler' last='Martinovich']. Brighton ended the game with 282 rushing yards but just could not get anything going in the passing game as they could only muster 3 passing yards. To put the game away, [player_tooltip player_id='406846' first='Ervin' last='Wiggins'] Jr. was able to punch in a short yardage TD run to finally put the lead out of grasp. A big win by East High to leave under the lights as Class A champs.

Class B: Honeoye Falls-Lima vs Monroe

For the Class B Championship Game, it was between Honeoye Falls-Lima and Monroe High School. This was a low scoring game with a final score of 20 to 0 where Monroe took home the title. What was huge for the success in the game for Monroe was their ability to control the big plays that were produced by Honeoye Falls-Lima QB which Monroe was able to do. For Honeoye Falls-Lima, they were able to make some plays such as an interception by Alexander Steinhoff, but they just were not able to turn any positive plays into points. This Monroe football team did an outstanding job like they have all season long to hold on strong to close out this game.
