The Big Reds came out on top 33-21 after not letting up a single point in the 2nd half. The incredible performance from this defense was so entertaining to watch. This article will highlight the top performers from each team in this clash for the D2 state championship.
Sante Gasperoni Sante Gasperoni 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB De La Salle | 2025 State MI – QB, De La Salle: Sante showed off a pretty underrated part of his game: mobility. He ended up with 2 rushing TDs, and 50 yards. He isn’t known for his scrambling ability, but he showed that he could absolutely do it. He was also mobile in the pocket and was able to make some pass rushers miss to still deliver balls downfield. He threw for a solid 250 yards and a TD on top of what he did on the ground also. I thought he played well, but the accuracy was an issue a few times. I will definitely be watching to see if he can take the next step next season.
Damion King Damion King 5'7" | 150 lbs | WR De La Salle | 2026 State MI IV- WR, De La Salle: Damion was steady and reliable pretty much all night long. He was able to get free for some catches especially when plays broke down. He wound up with a 100 yard receiving day and a touchdown. He is on a really good trajectory, as he is only a sophomore, and looked vastly improved from when I saw him at a 7V7 right before the season started. I think he is going to continue to be elite, and could really break out as the top dog at the WR position for the ’26 class.
Sam Wakula- LB/RB, De La Salle: Sam had 10 total tackles on the day, but it felt like he was all over the field. He put a ton of pressure on the offense, and was able to flow to the ball consistently. He is really solid at reading the play quickly, and ripping through blocks to make the tackle. He’s physical and likes contact and it’s a fun style of play to watch.
Keon Drummer- WR/DB, Muskegon: The Muskegon defense was really the difference, and Drummer was a huge piece of that. He ended up with 8 tackles to lead the team, and a forced fumble. I thought he showed some good fundamentals in passing situations as well, though he wasn’t tested a whole lot. I wasn’t too familiar with this kid before, but I thoroughly liked what he showed when the lights were the brightest.
Destin Piggee Destin Piggee 5'6" | 160 lbs | ATH Muskegon | 2024 State MI – WR/DB, Muskegon: Numbers wise his game was very strange. He only had 1 catch, but it went for a 95 yard TD, in which he showed off elite speed pulling away from an extremely quick and athletic De La Salle secondary. Defensively he seemed to just keep good position all night, and De La Salle didn’t seem to want to test him much so he only ended up with 1 tackle. Nevertheless, he was in the pocket of his receivers all night and wasn’t afraid to do some dirty work. Playing at the D2 level would be a great fit for Destin.
M’Khi Guy- QB/DB, Muskegon: M’Khi was the star of the show on Saturday. This dude did it all on both sides of the ball. Offensively he went off for 247 rushing yards with 2 touchdown, plus adding 2 touchdowns through the air with another 160 yards and no turnovers. Defensively he was a force with a few tackles and multiple defended passes. Colleges quickly took note as he has received a few offers in the hours following the game. He has a bright future no matter what path he chooses as he is a prolific basketball player as well. Whatever program gets him is getting a proven winner and elite athlete.
SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO THE ENTIRE MUSKEGON OFFENSIVE LINE: Isaiah Williams, Miguel Botello Miguel Botello 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL Muskegon | 2024 State MI , Karl Brooks Karl Brooks 6'4" | 345 lbs | OL Muskegon | 2024 State MI , Jim Harris Jim Harris 6'5" | 295 lbs | OL Muskegon | 2025 State MI and N-Kye Wynn N-Kye Wynn 6'5" | 245 lbs | OL Muskegon | 2025 State MI were one of the best offensive lines in the state all season long. Coach Matt Bolles had his guys in the trenches ready to go in this one, and they were as good as advertised.
