As we near the end of the Canadian High School football season, all the district/regional championships have been taking place to decide who will move onto the provincial finals. Last week I made my way out to the talent hot bed for football in Canada, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District Board Championship. Let me just say there was talent everywhere across the field. The game featured the Nationally ranked No.3 Bishop Tonnos Titans against the No.10 St. John Henry Newman Cardinals. The Titans would ultimately prevail in this game on home turf but there was some great performers on both sides of the ball.

Montour is as advertised as the biggest physical wide out can beat you in just about any way from putting a defender on skates and making him miss, to physically running through linebackers on underneath routes. The highlight by far in the game was when it was deadlocked early at 7-7, and the Bishop Tonnos receiver caught a 10 yard hook pass at midfield where he looked to be going down with two DB's closing in on him before breaking both tackles, then shedding a third before taking off down the sidelines for a 55 yard score. Montour also showed off his defensive abilities in the game playing press coverage on a deep vertical route where he picked the ball off at the 3 yard line before taking out to about the 25. The athletic WR is poised to be a next level playmaker and likely should be at the D1 level.","_player_evaluations_0_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":["not_in_db"],"_player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_1_player_details_selected_featured_image":"","_player_evaluations_1_player_details_selected_featured_image":"field_62cca28ffa4e7","player_evaluations_1_player_details_player_name":"Elliot Blake","_player_evaluations_1_player_details_player_name":"field_62aba4c9ecf2f","player_evaluations_1_player_details_graduating_class":"2024","_player_evaluations_1_player_details_graduating_class":"field_62aba4ddecf30","player_evaluations_1_player_details_height":"5'8u0022","_player_evaluations_1_player_details_height":"field_62aba4e8ecf31","player_evaluations_1_player_details_position":"2408","_player_evaluations_1_player_details_position":"field_62aba4f0ecf32","player_evaluations_1_player_details_school":"Bishop Tonnos","_player_evaluations_1_player_details_school":"field_62aba4fdecf33","player_evaluations_1_player_details_club_team":"","_player_evaluations_1_player_details_club_team":"field_62d20e723441a","player_evaluations_1_player_details":"","_player_evaluations_1_player_details":"field_62aba4afecf2e","player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"It would almost be a crime not to mention this guy as you could hear his name on the call all night, but senior RB Elliot Blake was another big reason why the Titans took home the hardware last Friday night. Blake a bit smaller of a back at 5'8, 170-pounds might have the best motor I've seen on a RB province wide. Blake might be undersized but certainly plays the game as if he's 6'2, 210. The amount of times Blake ran between the tackles before running over a on coming defender must have been in the double digits. Blake is the type of back that can not only spring loose and leave defenders in the dust but you certainly feels his presence felt when he's carrying the ball. Physical, violent, and explosive, are how I would describe Blake. I expect he will make a great feature back at the next level.","_player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_2_player":["892401"],"_player_evaluations_2_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_2_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_2_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_2_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_2_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_2_evaluation":"We were certainly treated to some great backs during this Catholic board Championship. On the other side of the ball for the Cardinals saw 2025 top five Nationally ranked RB [player_tooltip player_id='892401' first='Kymarri' last='Smith'] featured also. Newman had a tough time most of the game against a stout Titans defense but the one bright spot the Cardinals had was Smith. Smith a true next level back at 5'11, 180-pounds plays the game with absolute finesse and precision. A highly calculated back who reads the field with elite vision, is the only way to describe him. Smith is a do it all back as well, you can line him up out of the slot which Newman often did to give him a jet reverse as well as they even lined him up at the wideout at one point to hit him on a deep fly route. Again it was tough for Newman to generate anything on Friday but Smith managed to put together a nice little day falling shy of 100 yards. There was a lot to like about Smith as he shined for the Cardinals roster. He will be expected to follow suit in tomorrows matchup in the GHAC semi finals when they take on the No.4 ranked Corpus Christi Longhorns.","_player_evaluations_2_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_3_not_in_database":["not_in_db"],"_player_evaluations_3_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_3_player_details_selected_featured_image":"","_player_evaluations_3_player_details_selected_featured_image":"field_62cca28ffa4e7","player_evaluations_3_player_details_player_name":"[player_tooltip player_id='881376' first='Nick' last='Garcia']","_player_evaluations_3_player_details_player_name":"field_62aba4c9ecf2f","player_evaluations_3_player_details_graduating_class":"2024","_player_evaluations_3_player_details_graduating_class":"field_62aba4ddecf30","player_evaluations_3_player_details_height":"6'4u0022","_player_evaluations_3_player_details_height":"field_62aba4e8ecf31","player_evaluations_3_player_details_position":"2406","_player_evaluations_3_player_details_position":"field_62aba4f0ecf32","player_evaluations_3_player_details_school":"St. John Henry Newman","_player_evaluations_3_player_details_school":"field_62aba4fdecf33","player_evaluations_3_player_details_club_team":"","_player_evaluations_3_player_details_club_team":"field_62d20e723441a","player_evaluations_3_player_details":"","_player_evaluations_3_player_details":"field_62aba4afecf2e","player_evaluations_3_evaluation":"Another bright spot for Newman during the Championship game was they were able to put a ton of backside pressure on the loaded BT offense. Most of that pressure on the day was generated by Senior Defensive End [player_tooltip player_id='881376' first='Nick' last='Garcia']. Garcia an excellent sized edge rusher at 6'4, 220-pounds made it super difficult for BT to get the ball up in the air. Garcia tried to do everything in his power as a senior captain to lead Newman to a championship on the day with 8 QB pressures, 7 solo tackles, 5 TFL's and a forced fumble. With a great inside dip and rip move, Garcia showed he's a technician from the edge. All day the BT tackles were struggling to fight the quick moving hands of Garcia but he kept getting in the back field. If it were not for the Titans getting the ball to the weak side of the field it could have been a closer game then it was because Garcia was lights out and causing a real problem for the BT O-line. Garcia is a big time player who could see the field early next year at the Canadian University level.","_player_evaluations_3_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_4_not_in_database":["not_in_db"],"_player_evaluations_4_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_4_player_details_selected_featured_image":"","_player_evaluations_4_player_details_selected_featured_image":"field_62cca28ffa4e7","player_evaluations_4_player_details_player_name":"[player_tooltip player_id='1240086' first='Ryan' last='Begadon']","_player_evaluations_4_player_details_player_name":"field_62aba4c9ecf2f","player_evaluations_4_player_details_graduating_class":"2024","_player_evaluations_4_player_details_graduating_class":"field_62aba4ddecf30","player_evaluations_4_player_details_height":"6'2u0022","_player_evaluations_4_player_details_height":"field_62aba4e8ecf31","player_evaluations_4_player_details_position":"2409","_player_evaluations_4_player_details_position":"field_62aba4f0ecf32","player_evaluations_4_player_details_school":"Bishop Tonnos","_player_evaluations_4_player_details_school":"field_62aba4fdecf33","player_evaluations_4_player_details_club_team":"Hamilton Varsity Tiger Cats","_player_evaluations_4_player_details_club_team":"field_62d20e723441a","player_evaluations_4_player_details":"","_player_evaluations_4_player_details":"field_62aba4afecf2e","player_evaluations_4_evaluation":"Finally, it's hard not to mention the guy who led the Titans to victory in senior QB [player_tooltip player_id='1240086' first='Ryan' last='Begadon']. Begadon went 18/25 for 241 passing yards along with 35 yards on the ground and 3 passing TD's. Begadon has now led the Titans to back to back city championships and looks to bring the Titans back to the provincial championships this year. Begadon a top 5 QB in Canada, led the the Hamilton Varsity Tiger Cats to a AAA provincial championship in the summer and now will look to add an OFSSA title as well. This might be the most decorated QB in the nation and rightfully so. The 6'2 pass thrower plays the game with elite pace, a true game manager who rarely ever plays from behind in football games. The best way to describe Begadon is ‘consistent' you know exactly what you're getting from him every game and he's going to win you a lot of football games. With elite touch on the ball, and the ability to stretch the field from 60-65 yards, Begadon is a guy coaches can open up their playbook with. I've had the chance to scout Begadon many times now and he's probably the most well rounded QB I've seen nationwide in terms of touch on the ball, arm strength, mobility, and decision making. Begadon possesses all of those traits and displays a high level of football IQ that not many other QB's can be compared to. The Titans are my pick to win the Ontario Provincial Championships and Begadon is a major reason why.","_player_evaluations_4_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations":5,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"edit","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6553dfa2e8e19"} /-->
