A big one in the 6A bracket goes down in Scottsdale on Friday night! Take a look:

Perry

Perry enters this quarterfinals matchup after going 7-3 in the regular season, with their only 3 losses coming against Open Division teams- Hamilton, Basha, and Chandler. Even with their only 3 losses coming against those opponents, I don't think Perry is being respected enough around the state as being such a legit threat to win the 6A title. They're fresh off a hard fought win last week over Mountain Pointe 30-27, and a large part of that win was due to the performance of WR [player_tooltip player_id='1116236' first='Kolton' last='Coleman']. Coleman leads the team in receptions, yards, and TD's and has really taken a huge leap throughout his senior season to establish himself as a dominant player. [player_tooltip player_id='954389' first='Diesel' last='Taylor'] has had himself a big year as well and has progressed and matured quickly throughout the season, and he'll get a huge test this week, meaning a big opportunity for Taylor to rise his stock with a lot of eyes in attendance. Defensively, [player_tooltip player_id='954366' first='Maddox' last='Ford'] has been their spark with 10 sacks, flashing that mean streak. An interesting one in Scottsdale Friday night, and were excited to see how it turns out.

Saguaro

Hearing Saguaro's name not in the open division playoffs still sounds bizarre, but they enter in the 6A bracket as huge contenders with a target on their back. Saguaro had a 5-5 record this season, but the record isn't even close to showing how talented this team is. They had one of the toughest schedules in the state and dropped those 5 games to legit contenders, which includes 3 Open Division teams (Liberty, Centennial, and Basha), a 6A playoff team (Salpointe Catholic), and an undefeated 11-0 out of state opponent in Sierra Canyon (CA). On top of that, starting QB [player_tooltip player_id='115508' first='Mason' last='Bray'] suffered an injury during the season which didn't do them any favors. But every year come playoff time, Saguaro always flips the switch and plays lights out to really flash their full potential. They have a number of talented athletes on both sides of the ball who are all legit D1 prospects, and they expect to bring a ton of juice to this one Friday night to continue their roll to the state championship. An intriguing matchup between two, high powered teams with a lot to prove in 2023.
