Byrd is going to be the next up and coming top tight end prospect out of Idaho as he gets through his Sophomore season. He has very nice size for his age, a huge frame with the ability to put on more weight and develop into a top tier talent for the position across the western region. He is explosive off the ball from his inline tight end position, can stretch the field with long strides and shows strong hands in traffic, while able to box out smaller defenders in space and win on 50/50 balls consistently. Byrd also shows the willingness to block defensive ends and linebackers, while also able to run a wide variety of routes and is a true mismatch nightmare for linebackers and safeties due to his size, willingness to go up and snatch the ball, and his downfield long speed. Look for Byrd to have a monster off season in 2024, and shoot up our 2026 rankings soon.
Highlights
Brekke is another big bodied target, and part of this lengthy 2026 class of skill position players across the state. He is a big bodied athlete that can get over the top with long speed, has a huge catch radius and can come down strong with the ball when making contested catches. Brekke could continue growing into a possible tight end as he continues to pack on weight to his frame. He is in line for a monster off-season and should turn some heads at camps and showcases due to his natural frame and length, especially for a ’26.
Mitchell is one of the better defenders across the state in this Sophomore class, and plays the mike backer position with good violence for Meridian. Meridian is coming off a big time playoff win against Mountain View, and Mitchell played a big part in the middle of that defense. He is a very stout run defender that is a true in the box banger with the ability to take on blockers and quickly defeat blocks, flows quickly to the ball and is a very strong tackler against bigger backs as well. Mitchell quickly diagnosis plays, has a quick trigger and shows plus lateral movement abilities when in coverage or pulling the chain in the open field. Look for Mitchell to have a potential rankings bump in this next update coming up.
