Week nine has come and gone and there were plenty of standout performers in the second week of the WV high school football season. Here are 12 athletes that stood out during week nine of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='907799' first='Gavin' last='Davis'] - Shady Spring '24 RB

Shady Spring's [player_tooltip player_id='907799' first='Gavin' last='Davis'] is putting on a show for his senior season as the Tigers defeated Class AAA Ripley 33-18 and squarely back in the playoff race. Davis had another career night as he eclipsed the 300-yard rushing mark for the Tigers. He also scored five touchdowns in the game as he carries the load for a beat-up Shady Spring team that has found a new identity in the second half of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='933118' first='Nate' last='Hulver'] - Philip Barbour '24 RB

[player_tooltip player_id='933118' first='Nate' last='Hulver'] has been a great pickup for the Philip Barbour Colts this season and although they lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Lewis County, Hulver had another big performance. The Tygarts Valley transfer rushed for nearly 300 yards in the high-scoring contest and scored three touchdowns for the Colts. Hulver finished with 275 yards on the night as the Colts fell to the Minutemen 39-38 in OT.

[player_tooltip player_id='866500' first='Tyler' last='Linksweiler'] - Independence '24 RB

The Independence Patriots had a big night on the ground led by senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='866500' first='Tyler' last='Linksweiler'] as they cruised past Nicholas County 46-0. Linksweiler rushed for 223 yards on 27 carries and amassed four touchdowns in a winning effort for the Patriots. He's been a solid option at running back all season for Independence as they push their way back into the Top 16 in Class AA with playoffs on their minds.

[player_tooltip player_id='370286' first='Malte' last='Feil'] - Linsly '24 WR

Senior Linsly wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='370286' first='Malte' last='Feil'] has had back-to-back impressive performances against quality competition and earned his second weekly standout mention in as many weeks. Feil hauled in 4 catches for 136 yards and scored two touchdowns in a 27-3 win for the Cadets over Trinity (PA). Anytime you score on half of your touches and average 34 yards per catch you know you had a great night of football. Feil showed off his big play ability yet again on screen passes and burning the defense over the top. He has a great combination of size and speed and even added 2 PAT kicks, 6 tackles, and a PBU on defense and special teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='1125438' first='Fisher' last='Fry'] - Wayne '25 ATH

The Wayne Pioneers make their way onto the weekly standouts after junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1125438' first='Fisher' last='Fry']'s big night in a 49-7 blowout of Sissonville. Fisher completed 100% of his passes in the game and an unheard-of 177.1 QB rating. He threw for 173 yards and four touchdowns in the game and even chipped in 25 yards rushing on three attempts and three tackles for the Pioneers.

[player_tooltip player_id='884041' first='Preston' last='Cooper'] - Scott '24 RB

Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='884041' first='Preston' last='Cooper'] has put three straight games of great performances together as the Scott Skyhawks develop their running game to pair with their electric passing offense. Cooper had by far his best game of the season in a 28-0 shutout of Poca. He carried the ball a whopping 30 times for 232 yards and a 7.7 yards per-carry average. This is his third straight game of rushing for at least 160 yards as the Skyhawks are now 8-0 on the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='370356' first='Casey' last='Minor'] - North Marion '24 ATH

Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='370356' first='Casey' last='Minor'] and his North Marion team had a huge win over Herbert Hoover in the "Huskies Bowl" 21-14. Minor was crucial in their victory and had 100 yards passing and rushing in the game. He completed 6 of 11 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown through the air. Minor also carried the ball 13 times for 103 yards and two more touchdowns to bring his game total to three on the night. This victory earned the North Marion Huskies the current #1 spot in the WVSSAC playoff rankings with two more weeks to go and a huge matchup with undefeated and #2 Roane County this week.

[player_tooltip player_id='907153' first='Kadien' last='Vance'] - Westside '25 ATH

Junior Westside quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='907153' first='Kadien' last='Vance'] had a big night in a tough 49-27 loss to a very good Class A Tug Valley team. Vance attempted 41 passes in the game and completed 21 of them for 318 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried the ball 22 times for 43 yards and made an impact on nearly every offensive snap for the Renegades as they fall to 3-4 on the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='370479' first='Dane' last='Hatfield'] - Herbert Hoover '25 ATH

[player_tooltip player_id='370479' first='Dane' last='Hatfield'] makes his way back to our weekly standouts after a few weeks off as Herbert Hoover loses a tough one to #1 North Marion 21-14. Hatfield was deadly with his legs as he has been all season and rushed for 190 yards on 29 carries and scored two touchdowns in the game. He also threw for 46 yards and committed zero turnovers as Herbert Hoover fell just short to North Marion in the Battle of the Huskies.

[player_tooltip player_id='1047397' first='Malachi' last='Stromile'] - Weir '24 ATH

Weir senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1047397' first='Malachi' last='Stromile'] has been one of the more underappreciated quarterbacks in Class AA this season and has been steady all year for the 8-1 Red Riders. Stromile had an efficient and big night throwing the ball in their 47-12 win over East Liverpool (OH). Stromile completed 8 of 9 passes for 192 yards and four touchdowns in the game while averaging 24 yards per pass and finishing with a 167.8 QB rating.

[player_tooltip player_id='884068' first='Brayden' last='Carder'] - Lewis County '24 FB/LB

Senior bruising full back and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='884068' first='Brayden' last='Carder'] had a huge night running the ball for the Lewis County Minutemen as they got a crucial victory over Philip Barbour that really helped their playoff hopes. Carder finished with 192 yards on 32 carries with four touchdowns in the contest in their Wing-T scheme. This performance pushed Carder over the 1,000-yard mark on the season and this win catapulted Lewis County to #9 in the WVSSAC playoff rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id='832676' first='Noah' last='Collins'] - Clay County '25 QB

[player_tooltip player_id='832676' first='Noah' last='Collins'] finally finished a game with under 200 yards passing for the first time this season but Clay County didn't need his services for long as they cruised to a huge 73-0 win over Class A Mount View. Although he finished just shy of 200 yards passing with 190, Collins still threw for five touchdowns and completed 16 of 25 passes. He added two carries for 25 yards in the running game and five tackles on defense in likely only a half of play. Collins and the Panthers have now won six straight and are currently in the playoff field at #15 as they surge at the right time of the season.
