Here’s a look at some of the top Class of ’24 pass catchers I’ve scouted this season.
Courtney helps keep defenses from loading up against Kennedy’s potent running game. I scouted him when the Cougars faced Iowa City High. He delivered an acrobatic, contested touchdown catch that showed off his strength and athleticism. He can also get separation using speed and crisp route running. With how often Kennedy runs the ball, the receivers need to block. Courtney is willing and able in that area.
I’ve scouted Madlock three times this season. The senior wideout proved to be a big-play receiver. He’s averaged 24.5 yards on 22 receptions with three touchdowns. At 6-1, 190, Madlock brings a good frame to position, allowing him to win on contested catches and shed tackles running after the catch. He’s a sound route runner.
Izaiah Loveless
Izaiah Loveless
I’ve scouted Loveless a couple of times this season. I noticed him getting separation soon into the first viewing. He’s averaged 23.5 yards on 19 receptions with five touchdowns. He finished second in the Class 4A 200 meters at May’s state track meet, finishing in 21.51 seconds. He also ran on the Trojans state champion 4×100 and 4×200 squads. You can’t teach speed.
Jackson Naeve
Jackson Naeve
The Regal senior is a good all-around football player with athleticism. He stands out as a technically sound receiver with big-play ability. He came into Friday night’s action averaging 24.6 yards on 28 catches with nine touchdowns. He also had 189 yards and five scores rushing, returned two kicks for touchdowns and housed a punt return. Naeve could on defense at the next level as well. He’s picked off three passes this season.
Griffith has stood out on the Wolves’ offense with 22 receptions for 405 yards and six touchdowns, all of which lead the team. I saw him in the season-opener against Clear Creek Amana in Tiffin. He only caught two passes on a night when Marion leaned into its running game during a 15-0 victory. Griffith does a nice job carrying out blocking assignments. In watching some of his receptions on his senior film, he shows a knack for winning contested balls with his athleticism and ability to track the pass in the air.
Nash Kotar
Nash Kotar
The Spartans have struggled in generating much offense through the air. Kotar leads the team with 14 receptions and a pair of touchdowns. He does a nice job using his strength in blocking for the running game. He also stands out in the secondary. He projects as a cover safety with size and physicality on that side of the ball.
