Courtney is a reliable play-maker for the cougars. Leading 5A in receiving yards, the Kennedy senior has been nothing but efficient and electric all year. He is more of a tempo route runner that doesn’t necessarily beat you with speed but can easily set you up to create some major separation. He is quick in and out of his cuts, precise in his timing and he knows how to high point the ball and win at the catch point. Whether playing on the outside or moving to the slot, I would label him as an explosive possession receiver, who pretty much can be your safe blanket but also the guy you want to take a shot with.

Courtney helps keep defenses from loading up against Kennedy’s potent running game. I scouted him when the Cougars faced Iowa City High. He delivered an acrobatic, contested touchdown catch that showed off his strength and athleticism. He can also get separation using speed and crisp route running. With how often Kennedy runs the ball, the receivers need to block. Courtney is willing and able in that area.

This kid can play. He possesses reliable hands and wins contested balls. He’s done the latter in the end zone against Dowling and again in this one. Both plays were big time. Courtney runs crisp routes, getting in and out of breaks quickly. He’s a willing and capable blocker. He can play in college, no doubt, and should be getting more attention.

We go from the top quarterback to the top wide receiver and there might not be a player in the country that had better receiving numbers than Cyrus Courtney Cyrus Courtney 6'1" | 190 lbs | WR Kennedy | 2024 IA did in week two. Before we get to those, Courtney had a solid first week and was one of our top performers as he caught eight passes for nearly 150 yards and a touchdown. Respectable numbers. Then week two happened and he is still running open against Pleasant Valley. He absolutely exploded for 17 receptions for 320 yards and three touchdowns. That’s a good stretch for two or three games and he did it in one night. Courtney has just over 450 receiving yards in the first few games and we can’t wait to see what he ends up doing this week.
