In an attempt to continue to bring hyperlocal coverage on the middle school/junior high/pre-high school level, today we’re checking out some 2028 prospects from New Jersey that have really impressed me during the 2023 season. Here are five eighth-grade prospects that fans should start to know early.
One more thing: Any 2028-2030 prospects looking for an exposure camp, Prep Redzone Next is holding SEVEN (7) camps this winter across the country. Here’s all the info!
Physically impressive and versatile are how I would describe defensive lineman Jackson Reuter Jackson Reuter 6’2″ | 230 lbs | DL . Less than 25 minutes from Philadelphia, the southwestern New Jersey prospect is unofficially listed at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds and was bench pressing 245 pounds as of August. On film he has one of the best/quickest swim moves I’ve seen in the Garden State’s 2028 class. Also note, he’s also a basketball player with better agility than one would think.
Shiver is prospect that has the potential to be one of the Tri-State’s best offensive/defensive line prospects in the class of 2028. Lists himself at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds (not verified) and looks like he may not be too far off from that. In the (limied) film I’ve seen, dominates the line of scrimmage as an offensive tackle and has the frame for it. Lines up for New Jersey powerhouse program, Silk City Elite. Would like to see him in one-on-one situations against some of the other top competition in the state to get a better feel for where he stands in the pecking order.

Here’s a kid out of the Matawan Husky-program that is continuing to get bigger, faster and stronger. Vaughn has literally grown into one of the top defensive end prospects in all of the northeast, for the 2028 class. Up to 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds (last verified size was 6-foot-2, 190 pounds in May 2023), he overwhelms offensive tackles on this level with his size and agility. Also a talented basketball player, when he gets downhill momentum and can get his feet and hands working together, it’s a wrap.

Deep down the New Jersey shoreline, Joe Dipaola Joe Dipaola 6’5″ | 265 lbs | OL St. Augustine Prep | 2028 is a two-way lineman that is already getting a ton of attention from private schools in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Affectionately going by “Big Joe”, he’s listed as 6-foot-3 and 245-pounds and has the makings of a big time prospect. Playing this year for the Brigatine Rams, he’s lining up at right guard and defensive tackle. Defensively, I watched clips from three games and he was double-teamed on every play. Offensively, does a nice job of setting his base and not over extending. I like him a lot–on both sides of the ball.
Going back to the Matawan Huskies, Beckley is another defensive line prospect that private school coaches are lining up to know about. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 225-pounds (unofficially) the defensive end is also the reigning USWANJ State Champion in wrestling at 190 pounds. Comes with freakishly long arms and agile hips that allows him to get into the backfield with relative ease. Even more impressive than his long arms and athletic resume, is that he’s benching 255 pounds already, too. You’ll hear a lot more about him in the future.
