Forest Park is sitting somewhat comfortably for a playoff spot, they dominated the Vikings last week and already have two conference wins. Gar-Field has a lot of work to do after last week’s setback against Potomac Senior. The Red Wolves have the talent on both sides of the ball to make a late season run, do not count them out quite yet. Here are a few players to keep your eye on for later:
One of the top uncommitted 2024 prospects in the state, Andrew Perry Andrew Perry 6’3″ | 210 lbs | DL Forest Park Woodbridge Va | 2024 VA is due for game wrecking performance. Perry is a long stout hybrid linebacker for the Bruins, he is a nightmare to block off the edge and will be a force at the next level, whatever school he may end up at.
Highlights
The Bruins workhorse 1,000 yard running back will look to get going early against a stingy Red Wolves defense. Behind what may be the biggest offensive line in this part of the state, Landon Hunt Landon Hunt 5’10” | 210 lbs | RB Forest Park | 2025 State VA is the workhorse for Coach Robinette’s run heavy offense. After his game last week here is what I wrote in my game ball piece:
Watching this game up close, I firmly believe Head Coach John Robinette when he said the Bruins believe they are going to be playing in the playoffs. Forest Park looked like the real deal in their dismantling of cross-town rival Woodbridge and junior running back Landon Hunt Landon Hunt 5’10” | 210 lbs | RB Forest Park | 2025 State VA is a big reason why. About midway through the first quarter, Hunt eclipsed the 1,000 yard rushing mark on the season, but that is not why he is getting a game ball. As many know the Bruins are a power run first offense who may throw 5 times per contest, they also have one of the biggest offensive lines in the region. The reason he is getting a game ball is because he is a team first player, not once when I interviewed post game did he want to give himself any credit. I mean he easily could of, he had over 100 yards rushing and 1 score in their victory over the Vikings, but instead he wanted to give credit to his big man up front. Players like Landon Hunt Landon Hunt 5’10” | 210 lbs | RB Forest Park | 2025 State VA are the type of young man you can build a championship squad with, and believe me Forest Park has those aspirations.
Jaiden Mclendon-Parker
Jaiden Mclendon-Parker
A playmaker both at corner and receiver for Forest Park that we have yet to talk about is Senior Jaiden Mclendon-Parker. Last week when Woodbridge was stacking nine defenders in the box, the Bruins called a pass play and it was Mclendon-Parker hauling in the long touchdown. This set the tone for Forest Park and if they want to advance in the playoffs they would be wise to call a few more deep shots to this dude. As Coach Robinette said to me last week “He does not not like to call pass plays”, if they do tonight expect Parker to be the recipient of any pass attempted.
Herman Jackson Herman Jackson 6’0″ | 145 lbs | ATH Gar-Field | 2025 State VA is a game changing back who has the ability to go the distance each time he possesses the football. A speedster with excellent vision, the Red Wolves also have a run heavy offense and use multiple running backs to get the opposing defense honest. If this junior can get going early, look out we could have a showdown in Woodbridge.
The star of the night was this young man Herman “Action” Jackson as he ran over/under/around and through the Unity Reed defense. Jackson had over 20 carries for nearly 170 yards rushing with two touchdowns. The way he has been working and performing he will be a name to know in the Cardinal district. A very humble young man who has a bright future, I expect him to receive all-conference honors this year.
Germaine Gillon
Germaine Gillon
Not to be outdone is teammate junior Germaine Gillon who had a big night two weeks ago in their win over Colgan. Early in the second half after Jackson had fumbled a punt return earlier, it was Gillon who took one to the house and gave the Red Wolves a lead they would not give back. Look for Coach Kiehling to mix in both Gillon and Jackson tonight to keep the Bruins defense guessing, these two are an excellent one-two punch.
