In an attempt to continue to bring hyperlocal coverage on the middle school/junior high/pre-high school level, today we’re checking out some 2028 linebacker prospects from North Carolina that have opened my eyes already. Here are five eighth-grade prospects that are set to have a bright future in high school and beyond.
One more thing: Any 2028-2030 prospects looking for an exposure camp, Prep Redzone Next is holding SEVEN (7) camps this winter across the country. Here’s all the info!
Long outside linebacker that also plays running back on the offensive side of the ball. Sure tackler that shows off a lot of range and excellent mobility for an eighth-grade prospect. Doubles as a standout baseball player as well. Will likely be at West Stanly High School in the fall.
Alston attended a PRZ Next camp last year and had a nice showing, but has since reclassed to the 2028 class and looks like he’s made the best of the decision. He’s up to 6-foot and 190 pounds, per his social media (not verified) and the additional size is proving to be beneficial. Looks like a stronger, more physical and confident player this season.
Highlights
Although he’s a North Carolina resident, Peterson plays for the Rarebreeds, a powerhouse program out of Georgia that also has standouts from Florida, too. Peterson is one of the top playmaking linebackers in all of the southeast with his ability to tip and pick off passes, in addition to making some big hits in the middle of the field.
A multi-sport athlete (wrestling/track and field) that is a force coming off the edge as an outside linebacker. Really fast off the snap with long arms for a 2028 prospect, that allows him to get by lunging offensive tackles. Tackles violently and does a great job at dropping pad level and wrapping up.
Highlights
The effort that Hardy plays with is very admirable and he’s a kid that any program would want in their locker room. Not the biggest, fastest or most athletic, but he’s a prospect that you can count on to give 110% and lead by example. Has bounced between defensive tackle, defensive end and middle linebacker but looks to have found a home as a middle linebacker in his final year of youth ball for the Triad Elite Ducks.
