The stars continue to shine and many other athletes stake their claim on the radar of evaluators all over the state. These four quarterbacks are part of a shortlist of gunslingers who are bound to shine bright on the biggest stages of postseason football.
Brock Shank
Brock Shank
Brock Shank has been impressive during his junior campaign. In the regular season, he threw for 2,150 yards and tallying 19 touchdowns through the air. He’s a dynamic player that can tear apart defenses in a multitude of ways. What stood out the most to me is his exemplary pocket presence. Shank has displayed that he has a good feel for his surroundings and knows when to stand strong versus when to escape. It’s impressive to see how willing he is to remain in the pocket and deliver the ball with strength and accuracy. Like I mentioned before, Shank can beat teams in a variety of ways. If he has the space, he can easily use his legs to pick up the tough short yardage, but also explosive enough to make chunk plays downfield. This is an athlete who has the traits to continue to be very successful during postseason play.

Talk about a true dual-threat quarterback. Donovan Williams Donovan Williams 6’1″ | 210 lbs | QB New Haven | 2024 State IN is just that. Beginning with his arm, Williams can really air it out. Not only can he let it rip 40 yards down field, he can do it with stellar accuracy. This season, Williams has thrown 21 touchdown passes while keeping interceptions at a minimum with five. Keeping it on the ground, his balance of speed and power are incredibly difficult to slow down. Williams can beat defenses many different ways and it’s what helps him remain successful. When going against a true dual-threat like Williams, it’s tricky to gameplan for him and limit his mark on the game. He’s the complete athlete.

I’ve covered East Noble’s Zander Brazel Zander Brazel 6’0″ | 185 lbs | QB East Noble | 2024 State IN before and it’s a no-brainer to mention him again. A week ago, he torched conference foe Bellmont for 293 yards and 6 touchdowns. This week, Brazel and the Knights open up sectional play against another familiar opponent in New Haven. That’s right. Zander Brazel Zander Brazel 6’0″ | 185 lbs | QB East Noble | 2024 State IN versus Donovan Williams Donovan Williams 6’1″ | 210 lbs | QB New Haven | 2024 State IN in round one. Brazel is such a cerebral gun slinger and it shows when he goes to work in the pocket. He has a great deal of experience at the head of the huddle and it’s that’s what it’s going to take to make a deep run in the postseason. Keep an eye on Brazel and the Knights this time of year.

Izaak Wright
Izaak Wright
What a career it has been for Wabash Apache, Izaak Wright. In recent weeks, Wright has topped Wabash record books in all-time passing yards and passing touchdowns. This goes to show the kind of player he is. Standing tall in the pocket at 6’3″, Wright displays a nice touch on all levels of passes, ranging from the short dump off, to the deep ball. He’s incredibly athletic, in general, as he has also seen lots of success on the hardwood during the winter months. As a team, it hasn’t been the season they have hoped for but they have momentum heading into sectional play, pitching a shutout against Whitko a week ago. Wabash takes on Eastside on Friday and with Wright at the helm, the possibilities are endless.
