Week two has come and gone and there were plenty of standout performers in the second week of the WV high school football season. Here are 11 athletes that stood out during week two of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='907235' first='Braden' last='McWreath'] - Wheeling Central '25 WR/DB

Wheeling Central junior athlete [player_tooltip player_id='907235' first='Braden' last='McWreath'] is becoming a mainstay on our weekly standouts list making it back-to-back in the first two weeks of the season. After a great performance in a week one loss against James Monroe, McWreath continued his dominant play in the Marron Knights' win over Perry (PA). He made plays at a variety of positions and both sides of the ball and is quickly becoming one of the top overall athletes in Class A. McWreath carried the ball 18 times for 182 yards and a touchdown. He also added a receiving touchdown and accumulated over 230 yards total. The junior also made his mark on defense with the game-sealing interception while adding two pass breakups and 5 tackles.

[player_tooltip player_id='370324' first='Maxwell' last='Molessa'] - Williamstown '24 ATH

Williamstown senior QB [player_tooltip player_id='370324' first='Maxwell' last='Molessa'] had a quick and efficient night for the Yellowjackets in their 60-14 win over Webster County. Molessa only needed the first half to account for 4 total touchdowns with three coming through the air and one on the ground. The WVU baseball commit was 6/7 for 133 yards and the three passing touchdowns while adding 59 yards and the other score with his legs. Molessa looks to lead his team to another Class A state championship after winning it in 2022.

[player_tooltip player_id='865476' first='Ethan' last='Rosenau'] - Tucker County '24 QB

Senior QB [player_tooltip player_id='865476' first='Ethan' last='Rosenau'] only needed the first half to score 5 touchdowns in Tucker County's 70-0 rout over Tygarts Valley. Rosenau threw for 4 touchdowns on 7/8 attempts for 125 yards and a 166.7 QB rating. He also added a touchdown on the ground bringing his total to 5 for the half. Rosenau made our Preseason First Team Class A All-State team and through the first two weeks of the season, he has completed 19/20 passes for 347 yards and 8 touchdowns.

[player_tooltip player_id='940254' first='Brandon' last='Jones'] - East hardy '24 WR/DB

East Hardy senior WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='940254' first='Brandon' last='Jones'] scored on both sides of the ball in the Cougars' 32-13 win over Pendleton County. Jones hauled in two touchdown passes from [player_tooltip player_id='940272' first='Damien' last='Dellinger'] and was a tough cover all night. Jones also intercepted a pass on defense and returned it all the way for a touchdown to seal the game for East Hardy. Jones appears to be the #1 target in East Hardy's passing attack and had a great game in week two of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1017814' first='Dallas' last='Preat'] - Valley '24 WR

Valley senior WR [player_tooltip player_id='1017814' first='Dallas' last='Preat'] has had a great start to his senior season and had a big game for the Lumberjacks at receiver in their week two win over Calhoun County. Preat has been the #1 option in the passing game for Valley and had 6 catches for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns while averaging 21.2 yards per catch. Through the first two weeks of the season, Preat has amassed 11 catches for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns as Valley starts the season 2-0.

[player_tooltip player_id='907672' first='Colton' last='Hall'] - Gilmer County '24 RB

Senior running back and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='907672' first='Colton' last='Hall'] of Gilmer County had a big night for the Titans on both sides of the ball. Hall had 191 rushing yards in the game while also adding 7 tackles from his linebacker position. Hall is a big-bodied punishing runner who is tough to tackle at the Class A level. Look for the senior to put up some big stats this season for the Titans as they look to make the playoffs.

Jayton Gibson - Calhoun County '24 RB

A new name on our radar is senior running back Jayton Gibson of Calhoun County who had a big week two game against a good Valley team. Gibson eclipsed the 200-yard rushing mark on the night including a touchdown in their narrow loss to Valley. Gibson totaled 218 yards in the contest and is a name that we weren't familiar with before but will be monitoring moving forward with more performances like that one.

[player_tooltip player_id='1078417' first='Colson' last='Wichterman'] - Cameron '24 QB

Known for his passing abilities, senior QB [player_tooltip player_id='1078417' first='Colson' last='Wichterman'] had a big night on the ground for the Cameron Dragons in their blowout win over Hundred. Wichterman played mostly only in the first half but was able to score three times on the ground for the Dragons for 116 yards on just 4 carries. The Dragons primarily used their rushing attack to defeat the Hornets so he was limited through the air with just 6 attempts but Wichterman was able to use his legs to run through the Hundred defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='907703' first='Chase' last='Littleton'] - Madonna '24 ATH

Another name that has made our weekly standouts list two weeks in a row is senior Madonna ATH [player_tooltip player_id='907703' first='Chase' last='Littleton'] who is their new QB1 this season. Littleton has made a quick but huge impact for the Blue Dons at his new position and is one of the better athletes in Class A this season. After a big performance against Wellsville (OH) in week one, Littleton followed that up with an even bigger game in week two versus Hancock (MD). In total, Littleton scored 6 times with three apiece through the air and on the ground. He had 91 yards passing and 119 yards on the ground for a complete game and a dominant victory over the visiting team from Maryland.

[player_tooltip player_id='866524' first='Chase' last='Lowe'] - Wirt County '24 RB

Wirt County senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='866524' first='Chase' last='Lowe'] makes his second appearance of the young season in our weekly standouts list and is quickly becoming one of the top players in Class A again this season. Lowe backed up a great week one performance with an even bigger week two to the tune of 223 rushing yards on just 13 carries and three touchdowns. With an astounding 17.1 yards per carry, Lowe was simply unstoppable against an overmatched Magnolia squad. If Lowe isn't the leading rusher in the state so far he can't be far off through the first two weeks.

[player_tooltip player_id='1138825' first='Kaleb' last='Kuhn'] - Petersburg '26 WR

Another new name to our radar is Petersburg sophomore receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1138825' first='Kaleb' last='Kuhn'] who had a big night for the Vikings in their win over Buffalo. Kuhn was the recipient of two [player_tooltip player_id='1229738' first='Caden' last='Arbaugh'] touchdown passes and also added another score to make his total three for the night. Teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1229738' first='Caden' last='Arbaugh'] threw for three touchdowns as well in a 39-0 shortened victory. The 2026 athlete will be a new name to follow moving forward with more performances like this one.

Week two has come and gone and there were plenty of standout performers in the second week of the WV high school football season. Here are 11 athletes that stood out during week two of the season.
