These articles will be highlighting top performances by position each week, I wanted to say there are MANY other defensive lineman who could be put on this list. I am listing the players who’s stat line stood out, who people recommended, and players who either I watched live or was able to watch highlights from their specific game. For the best chance to be featured, send me your weekly film on twitter. My handle is “@DevinRecord”, please don’t have any hard feelings if you weren’t included.
Wesley Blackmer
Wesley Blackmer
Wesley is a stud on the defensive side of the ball. He can line-up on the edge on the defensive line, or he can line up at the linebacker position and wreck havoc. He has a variety of skill moves he uses when he is going after the quarterback and never stops his relentless pursuit until he gets him down. Week 1 he was in the backfield a lot, giving the QB a rough night, Wesley had 3 sacks on the night.
Efren is an under the radar prospect who stands out to me often. He was included a couple times last year after he had some big-time performances on the season. He continues to be a problem for offensive lines and should have the attention of college coaches more so then he does now. During week 1 he had 9 tackles, 1 sack, and 5 QB pressures. He will continue to hunt QB’s during this season.

Here’s a player I wasn’t aware about coming into this season. When I watched Smith’s film, I saw a natural rusher and a player who can be involved in almost every single play. He got in the backfield often, was able to wrap up ball carriers at the line of scrimmage with ease throughout the game. He’s a fantastic athlete with a natural killer instinct on the field. I’m keeping a close watch on him this season.
Tyler McAfee
Tyler McAfee
Here’s another player I wasn’t too familiar with but stood out in a big way. He read the quarterback very well, knowing fast if it was a run or pass play. McAfee was quick to get in the backfield, causing havoc in the passing game and rushing game. He had a big time week 1, compiling 3 sacks on his own during the game. He is going to look to continue his impressive playgoing forward.
