Broden Peska
The defensive line for Ithaca was really solid given the very capable rushing attack from SSC. Peska was a leader in that, as he was showing off an innate ability to shed his blocker, sometimes 2 to still make the play. Peska has good size, but is still athletic and has a variety of moves to get free and make the play. He was initiating contact more often than not, always firing off the ball. Ithaca has to feel good about his development so far, and will have the rest of this year and next year to continue developing into the player he appears to have the potential of.
Noah Risner
Noah Risner
Noah has a great sense at the LB position, you can tell it comes natural to him. He was reading plays really quick and getting to his spot. He made a lot of plays just by reading the play and beating the offense to the point of attack. He is a really sure tackler as well, not letting anyone through once he got to them. I didn’t see many times where he was too out of position or looked fooled by anything. SSC was definitely a challenge, especially on the ground, but Noah really stepped up big and made some key plays to get the win.
Kalgary Fegan
Kalgary Fegan
From the safety position, this kid was flying around making plays. As many yards and TDs as the secondary unit gave up as a whole, I think without Fegan, it would have been worse. He was making good reads, and not over committing. He stayed disciplined until the last second, and then would make a break on the ball and actually got some stops that way. The overall performance of the secondary was not up to what SSC would like, but Fegan was a bright spot, and as this young team continues to develop, I hope he can help get the rest up to speed.
Nick DeShais
Nick DeShais
I like the way Nick plays in the trenches. He’s physical, nasty and is a good tackler when he gets his hands on the ballcarrier. I think at times he gets a little overzealous, but I would rather have to reel it back than try to light a fire under them. Nick was a little smaller than the offensive lineman he was matched up with most game, but he was still using pretty good technique to keep himself free and in the play. He has a high motor and plays with a chip on his shoulder, and that is something the SSC defense is going to need going forward. Hopefully he can keep working and shaping his craft, because the tools are all there to succeed.
