2023 Pass Defender of the Year Watchlist

Below are a way-to-early list of pass defenders who are in contention for the state's pass defender of the year. He is a receiver who gets in on the action (12/146/1); however, Carter is a total turnover machine in the secondary for the Panthers. He currently leads the state with 6 interceptions in four games, one of which was returned for a score. He has at least one interception in every game he has played thus far. The senior Viking has really solid, well-rounded defensive numbers for the year. He has made 12 tackles (6 solo), forced a fumble, blocked a kick, has 4 interceptions, and 1 defensive score. Representing the Morristown Colonials, Van Zile has made 10 stops on the season - an impressive 8 of which were solos - while also intercepting the ball 4 times thus far. Since then, his stellar play has only continued. Since that crazy opening week game, Irwin has gone on to make 19 tackles (10 solos), recovery a fumble, intercept a total of 4 passes on the season, and return one of those picks the other way for a score. His output both as a pass defender and run stuffer from the secondary is pretty unique. Thus far he has 28 tackles on the season (16 solos), 2 tackles behind the line, blocked 1 kick, and intercepted 4 passes. Booth adds to his versatility in the rushing (5/40) and passing (4/21) game as well.
