Today we will focus on Summers County HS. Here are some prospects you need to keep an eye on from Summers County HS for the 2023 season.
One of the senior leaders for the Summers County Bobcats this season will be running back/defensive back, Drake Cole Drake Cole 5’6″ | 165 lbs | ATH Summers County | 2024 State WV . Cole was a Class A Second Team All-State selection as a junior in 2022 and could see his name on the First Team list this season. He rushed for 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns last season and could increase those numbers even more as the Bobcats look to make the playoffs in 2023. Cole has the speed to break a long run but will also run hard between the tackles. He showed he can also run routes out of the backfield or line up out wide. Cole is a two-way starter and mans one of their outside linebacker spots on defense. I really like him as an offensive playmaker though and he’s very dangerous with the ball in his hands. Drake Cole Drake Cole 5’6″ | 165 lbs | ATH Summers County | 2024 State WV should be one of Class A’s leading rushers in 2023 for his senior season.
Jonah Pugh Jonah Pugh 5’6″ | 215 lbs | LS Summers County | 2025 WV may not be the biggest lineman but he anchors the Bobcats’ offensive line at center. Pugh stands at just 5’6 215 but he plays as if he’s 6’4 300. Being on the shorter side, Pugh is able to play with good leverage and he’s strong for his size. He matches up with defensive linemen bigger than him and holds his ground well. Although film was limited of him, it’s no wonder why his coaches named him as one of the Bobcats’ top players. Pugh also sees time on the interior of the defensive line and he will pop you. You can measure his size but you can’t measure his heart and Pugh is a perfect example of that motto.
Highlights
Summers County has a pair of talented 2025 linebackers in Tyson Adkins and Frankie McClaugherty Frankie McClaugherty 5’10” | 205 lbs | LB Summers County | 2025 WV . Adkins is a two-time Class A Second Team All-State selection with still two more years of high school to go. The 5’8 205 rising junior is also the Bobcats’ starting fullback where he can carry the ball and also lay some punishing blocks. Adkins is a tough gritty player that does all the dirty work for the Bobcats and enjoys doing so. Adkins plays with a physicality that you don’t often see these days and you can tell he plays with a lot of passion. Look for him to increase those Second Team All-State selections to First Teams in the next two years.
The first thing that jumped out to me from watching 2025 linebacker Frankie McClaugherty Frankie McClaugherty 5’10” | 205 lbs | LB Summers County | 2025 WV ‘s sophomore highlights is his hustle. McClaugherty is always moving and running to the ball from the snap until the whistle. The amount of effort he plays with was impressive to see and is exactly what you want from a young player. Now that he’s another year older and stronger, McClaugherty should join a handful of other fellow Bobcats in the Class A All-State selections this year. He also starts on the Bobcats’ offensive line so you know how tough and physical he is. McClaugherty has pretty good speed and quickness and he’s always running ball carriers down from behind that other players may not put in the effort to do. Frankie McClaugherty Frankie McClaugherty 5’10” | 205 lbs | LB Summers County | 2025 WV is worth keeping tabs on for his next two seasons.
Ryan Oliveros Ryan Oliveros 5’10” | 170 lbs | ATH Summers County | 2025 State WV is a standout receiver and defensive back for the Summers County Bobcats. Oliveros earned Class A Honorable Mention All-State as a sophomore in 2022 and will be one of Class A’s premier athletes for the next two seasons. The 5’9 165 Oliveros makes plays all over the field on both sides of the ball and is also a very good special teams player. He can lock down one side of the field at corner or make big plays at receiver. Oliveros is also a very good tackler in space and in the open field. His speed and playmaking ability make him dangerous wherever he lines up but Oliveros also showed he has sure hands at receiver and is not just a speed guy. I think his ceiling is very high at DB and that’s where he’ll likely play at the next level if he chooses to play football because Oliveros is also a good basketball player. Keep an eye on this 2025 Bobcat for the next two seasons in Class A.
