Game 1: Laurens 17, Fort Mill 7

The start was not great for Laurens as they committed back-to-back false start penalties before the ball went over the quarterback's head. About a play or two later, Josh Welch (pictured above) jumped right in front of the throw for Fort Mill on a pick six to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-0 lead with 10:35 to play in the first half.

Nick Fowler connected with Rodrick Payne for a long completion to set up a field goal, cutting into the Yellow Jackets' lead at 7-3 with 6:28 to play before the half.

A coverage bust for Fort Mill led to Fowler finding [player_tooltip player_id='1254087' first='Josh' last='Goodwin'] wide open for a touchdown, giving Laurens a 10-7 with 3:06 to play before the half. Goodwin also scored a late touchdown to put the game away at 17-7.

Fort Mill was unable to get much going offensively in their wishbone option offense. Malik Jackson for Laurens recorded a TFL on a botched quarterback exchange while Travija Austin did an excellent job of coming up in run support.

The Yellow Jackets got a bit of a spark offensively late as Jackson Smith made a nice catch and ran down the left sideline.

Fort Mill head coach Rob McNeely told Prep Redzone SC after the scrimmage that they'll need to slow down the pace in growing up the younger guys.

“We've got to clean up a lot of things mentally I think. I think it was a lot faster from some of our young guys with not a lot of experience so we've just to slow it down for them,” McNeely said.

Game 2: Providence (NC) 14, Westwood 0

[player_tooltip player_id='620328' first='Jackson' last='Debe'] was a star in Panthers' offense as he connected with Otavio De'Oliveria on a pass over the middle and De'Oliveria got the Panthers on the board with 8:31 to play in the first half. He closed out the scoring with a scramble with 7:26 to play in the contest. Providence coach Weslee Ward had high remarks for his quarterback.

“He's a true leader and does what we need him to do and is a very coachable kid. He wants to get better all the time and kind of mix that with the talent that he has, he's going to be a really, really good player for us the next 3 years,” Ward said.

Jayden Woodruff ran hard for the Panthers while [player_tooltip player_id='126931' first='Billy' last='Wilkes'] came hot untouched for a sack on defense.

Westwood forced a turnover on defense and Red Hawks coach Robert O'Connell was pleased with what he saw. Jalen Burns, Justin Washington and K'Shon Harrison were some of the standouts.

Westwood opens the season against Spring Valley next Friday while Providence opens against Ardrey Kell in Charlotte.

Game 3: Providence Day (NC) 10, Clover 7

Clover's Jaylon Hoover led the Blue Eagles on a long opening drive, where he made plays on the run by scrambling. He connected with Travis Sanders in the flat to give them a 7-0 lead with 5:37 to play in the first half.

TJ McCluney was a go-to target for Hoover as well as he made a great catch near the sideline while Hoover was scrambling. [player_tooltip player_id='1012627' first='Landon' last='Stone'] showed purpose running in between the tackles and on the outside. [player_tooltip player_id='997351' first='Jayden' last='Bryant'] also stood out on defense for the Blue Eagles.

Providence Day's [player_tooltip player_id='91362' first='Jadyn' last='Davis'], a Michigan commit, connected with [player_tooltip player_id='147623' first='Channing' last='Goodwin'] to tie the game at 7 a piece with 57 seconds to play before the half. He also connected with JD Elsworth on an impressive rollout. Brody Barnhart also ran hard throughout the session.

The Chargers won on a walk off field goal following a torrential downpour in York during the second half. Clover coach Perry Woolbright was proud of the effort he saw against one of the top teams in North Carolina.

“At the end of the day, win or lose, it didn't matter. But we wanted to play our type of football. The kids need to experience that. Our kids need to come out and play our brand of football which is line up and hit the other team in the mouth and the kids did that for two quarters. They competed every play, did everything we asked them to do. Adversity hit us and we just played the next play,” Woolbright said.

Game 4: Clinton 14, York 0

Clinton recovered a York fumble early in the contest and the Red Devils leaned on the running game heavily with Jayden Robinson, Kadon Crawford and Kason Copeland. Crawford got the Red Devils on the board first with 7:06 to play in the first quarter while Robinson closed the scoring just before the end of the first quarter. Tyshuwan Richardson is a load to bring down at quarterback as he didn't go down with first contact.

[player_tooltip player_id='771037' first='Zay' last='Johnson'] made a nice tackle in space towards the end of the session.

Standouts for the Cougars included Michael McCarter, who had a nice catch and run from Triston Bennett while De'Maurion Stewart hauled in an interception and Jonathan Tobias was a tackling machine.
