Week 1 Recap: Faith Lutheran vs. Desert Pines

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Desert Pines Jaguars had their zero-week game cancelled yet hit the ground running last night for their first contest of the season. Despite the flags flying, the Jaguars were able to make plays in all three phases of the game to earn a 38-13 victory over the Crusaders. The Jaguars were able to capitalize on a Crusader fumble and score there first touchdown with two plays after the turnover. The Jaguars' defense shut down Faith's offense on the first two drives and only allowed a Caden Chittendon field goal after a dropped punt in their own territory. By the second quarter, the Jaguars' penalty issues had grown causing [player_tooltip player_id='284053' first='Treyshaun' last='Jackson'] to have his second special teams touchdown called back. Still, the Jaguars' defense held strong in the second quarter after forcing a third Caden Chittendon field goal that was his only miss of the night. [player_tooltip player_id='811156' first='Greg' last='Burrell'] picked up on that energy and exploded down the sideline for the Jaguars' first chunk play of the night, getting inside Faith Lutheran territory. Two plays later, Greg was punishing defensive backs in the open field en route to a 14-6 lead before halftime. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='876719' first='AJ' last='Stowers'] came out firing in the second half, but Faith Lutheran's defensive line made their best stand of the night to start the third quarter. Faith stood tall in the trenches inside the five yard line, and after a fourth down penalty, the Crusaders were able to hold the Jaguars to a field goal. Later in the third quarter, [player_tooltip player_id='212379' first='Massiah' last='Mingo'] was able to reverse field and shake multiple Crusader in order to set up [player_tooltip player_id='811156' first='Greg' last='Burrell'] with his second touchdown of the night, giving the Jaguars a 24-6 lead. Faith was able to strike back to cut the lead to eleven, but the Jaguars answered immediately on the ensuing kickoff with a Mingo touchdown that was finally in the record books!
