Week zero is here and for quite a few schools, they’ll be kicking off their 2023 football seasons this week. One of the notable games, specifically in the Tulsa area is 2A’s #5 Victory Christian hitting the road to face off with 3A’s #9 Cascia Hall. In this post, we’re taking a deeper look at Victory Christian as they open up their 2023 season. The Conquerors are coming off a 2022 season where they made it all the way to the 2A semifinals and they are hungry for more in 2023. They will once again play a challenging non-district schedule and that will prepare them for what will be a competitive district as well. Class 2A is once again one of the deepest classes in the state and Victory Christian will look to start gaining some momentum this week against the Commandos.
Cascia Hall has dominated this series with Victory Christian historically and over the last several years. After not playing for a decade, these two have been opening up the season against one another every year since 2020. Cascia Hall has won all three regular season meetings and the playoff meeting in 2021. The Conquerors will be looking for their first win over the Commandos since 2004 when they meet this week.
They thought they were going to break that losing streak with a massive comeback last year. Halfway through the fourth quarter, Victory Christian trailed 26-0. Victory would rattle off 21 unanswered points in the final four minutes and had the ball with a chance to take the lead at the end of the game but came up just short and Cascia escaped with a 26-21 win.
Victory Christian will have to be ready for a new look Cascia Hall team this week. The Commandos were not only hit hard by graduation so they’ll have quite a few new starters out there, they are also switching things up on the offensive side of the ball. For years, Cascia Hall has been a run-first team but this year, they expect to flip that and become a pass-first team that airs it out quite a bit. The week zero clash will be the first look at Cascia’s new look offense but Victory should be ready with the majority of their starters back from last year’s team. Below, we take a look at some of the players to watch for the Conquerors not only this week but throughout this season.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Victory Christian 2024 quarterback Ayden Hamilton Ayden Hamilton 6’1″ | 180 lbs | QB Victory Christian | 2024 State OK was one of the breakout players from last year’s season in Class 2A. The Conquerors made a run to the Class 2A semifinals with Hamilton leading the Victory offense. He was a true dual-threat quarterback a season ago and put up some monster numbers in the second half of the regular season and into the playoffs. Now, as we get ready for the 2023 football season, we can’t help but wonder what Hamilton’s production is going to look like with a full season to produce. Hamilton accounted for nearly 2,000 yards of total offense last season and he was pretty balanced between the pass and run game. We think that the Conquerors have the chance to be a very balanced offense with Hamilton leading the way.
Victory Christian has a newcomer to keep an eye on with 2026 standout Dallas Dyer Dallas Dyer 5’10” | 185 lbs | RB Victory Christian | 2026 State OK at the running back position. Dyer was a freshman at Broken Arrow last season and would find a way on to the field in limited situations. BA was loaded at running back last year so Dyer getting on the field is impressive on its own. Now, Dyer appears to be someone that Victory Christian can utilize on the offensive side of the ball as they look to replace their star running back from a year ago. While Hamilton has the ability to beat defenses with his legs, having a steady presence at the running back position will be helpful. We’ve gotten a chance to see Dyer in person a few times but it was in a 7v7 setting. But based on fall camp, Dyer is primed for a breakout year.
Highlights
The Victory Christian run game is a part of the offense that we’ll have an eye on this fall when you see some of the talent they have that can produce. But as always, in order for the running game to play at a high level, you have to have the offensive line clicking. And the Conquerors are going to have four new starters along the offensive line this season. The lone returning starter is 2025 standout Jayelyn Robinson Jayelyn Robinson 6’1″ | 260 lbs | OL Victory Christian | 2025 State OK but he’s a good one to have back. Robinson has seen meaningful playing time since he was a freshman and the Victory Christian coaches are very excited about his potential moving forward. Robinson is going into his third season as a starter and not only is he the lone returning starter, he’s going to be the seasoned vet along the line of scrimmage.
Victory Christian 2024 standout Michael Doctor Michael Doctor 6’1″ | ATH Victory Christian | 2024 State OK is one of our favorite versatile athletes in Class 2A this season. Doctor is an outstanding basketball player but he has started to match that production on the football field. On offense, Doctor is going to be Victory’s top target in the passing game as a wide receiver. He finished with nearly 1,000 yards receiving and eight touchdowns last season. On defense, Doctor was a ball hawk in the secondary and he finished with four interceptions on that side of the ball. There are quite a few dual-sport athletes in Oklahoma that are incredibly talented in basketball and football this season. Doctor definitely belongs on that list and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do on both sides of the ball this fall.
The Victory Christian defense is headlined by the return of 2024 standout Teyton Chandler Teyton Chandler 6’1″ | 200 lbs | LB Victory Christian | 2024 State OK at the linebacker position. Chandler was a Preseason All State 1st Team selection and when the Conquerors take the field on Friday, he will more than likely break the school record for tackles. He has been a tackling machine over the last three seasons and he will have a chance to be near the very top in terms of state history. Like Doctor, Chandler also excels in other sports for Victory. He is a state qualifier in wrestling and track. But when we look at the state’s 2024 class for linebackers, there are few better than Chandler. There are a few prospects in this class that are underrated and should be on more college radars and Chandler is one of them. He checks every single box for what you want at the next level.
