The hard work is starting to come to fruition! We have one week of football in the books, and many student athletes wasted little to no time to absolutely dominate the field. They put up monster numbers, and the film is worth taking a long look at. To recap the best of the best, we are going to do a deep dive of our own into the film from athletes who are at or near the top of the statistical categories across IL after the first round of games. Make note of any and all athletes below because they are sure to continue to put up video game numbers, and show off their next level talent over and over again. Let’s start with the leading rusher in the state.
Stats: 12 Carries, 305 Yards, 4 TDsrnWhat an opening night for the junior athlete out of Roxana! Not only were his total yards off the charts, so was his efficiency. Right off the bat, Andruw is such a smooth athlete. He instantly gets to top speed and is able to beat angles and win the race down the sideline. Roxana used that speed to get around the edge of the defense all night long. Ellis also showed off his vision, finding lanes to cut up through when the OL gave him clear paths. It was a video game like performance for the mismatch problem. Give the highlights a look!
Stats: 20/36, 413 Yards Passing, 2 TDsrnArmon is a raw QB prospect, but there are tools that were on display last week that have me intrigued for his potential. Armon came out slinging it in Week One. The arm strength is what catches your eye first. When he lets it rip, the ball fires out of his hand with velocity and it maintains that velocity all the way to the receiver downfield. That arm strength allowed him to make a couple nice, quick throws out of play action fakes without having to get his feet set. Armon also made several throws that showed off the accuracy. He was able to put the ball where his man had the best chance to come down with it while protecting it from the defense. Vinson also brings a dual threat to the field with his legs. Keep an eye on the productive senior athlete.
Highlights
Stats: 5 Receptions, 173 Yards, 4 TDsrnOne of the best WRs in Illinois didn’t hesitate to show why he entered the season ranked where he was. More impressive, he put up those monster numbers in only one half of football. Trimble is an elite mismatch. His speed and short area quickness/agility jump off the tape and are far superior than the other talent around him. After the catch, Brayden has excellent vision to find the best path to create the most yards possible after the catch. It is clear that he is confident in his abilities. He is a legitimate D1 talent, and a nightmare mismatch at the HS level. What really impressed me was how talented of a blocker Brayden was. He was aggressive, and had the strength to put DBs on their backs. Trimble was able to help add TDs to the scoreboard without touching the ball thanks to that blocking ability. This is one of IL’s need to know prospects.
Vince Webber
Vince Webber
Stats: 18 Tackles, 4 TFLsrnSee ball, hit ball. That was Vince Webber at LB all night for Bremen HS. While he is undersized, I came away impressed with out effectively Vince was able to work through the trash between the tackles as he filled his gap against the run game. He showed off some agility to make blockers miss, and used leverage to power through some blocks. As is key to being the leader tackler after week one, Webber was a sound tackler with good wrap up technique. Don’t sleep on the junior. He has solid instincts for the MLB position, and another year of football ahead of him to grow and develop.
Dylan Lessman
Dylan Lessman
Stats: 2 INTsrnThe 6’1″ 190 lbs senior is proving to be a name to know this fall. On his first pick, Dylan ran the route for the WR, got in great position, then high pointed the ball through contact. The second pick came of a great job of baiting the QB into a tough throw. Dylan trailed his receiver, trusted his athleticism, and read the QB perfectly so he could accelerate to the pick at the perfect time. Dylan plays like a savvy veteran at DB, and he has the athleticism to play at the next level. This is definitely an athlete to follow.
