Continue ReadingI hope everybody’s excited and ready for some football, because we’re finally here. We all know the firepower that Aliquippa is going to bring into this Week 0 matchup. In case you’re not familiar, the Quips have a gang of scholarship talent that have valuable game experience. Aliquippa made a state championship appearance, went 13-1, and had a perfect 8-0 conference record in 2022. Hickory went 5-6 in 2022, suffering losses to good competition such as Sharon, Wilmington, Farrell, Slippery Rock, and Sharpsville. The Hornets made the playoffs but were eliminated in the first round by a talented Slippery Rock squad. This week 0 matchup should be a good one to start the year with.
Cameron Lindsey Cameron Lindsey 6’2″ | 205 lbs | LB Aliquippa | 2024 State PA is a Pitt commit and Prep Redzone’s #2 ranked LB in the state. Lindsey is one of the Quips’ biggest intimidators on defense. He does everything above average for the position, such as playing sideline to sideline and delivering punishment. Cam was selected to Prep Redzone’s Preseason 2023 First Team All-State.
Brandon Banks Brandon Banks 6’0″ | 170 lbs | DB Aliquippa | 2024 State PA is another well-known prospect on this platform. The Yale commit sifted through 19 Division I offers before settling on the prestigious Ivy League school. Yale is getting a good one too; Banks is currently ranked as the sixth-best DB in the state of Pennsylvania on Prep Redzone. He’s an ultra-competitive DB who enjoys coming up to tackle and smothering wide receivers in coverage. Banks is also a dangerous return specialist who can take it back for a score. Banks made the Prep Redzone 2nd team Preseason All-State.
Tiqwai Hayes Tiqwai Hayes 6’1″ | 200 lbs | RB Aliquippa | 2025 State PA was recently selected to Prep Redzone’s Preseason First Team All-State squad. Hayes is a powerful 200-pound rusher that’s mixed with elusiveness and elite top-end speed. He’s a home run hitter with the ball and one of several proven Quip commodities. I’m going to be watching Hayes closely in Week 0, as Hickory should be too.
Jayace Williams Jayace Williams 6’2″ | 225 lbs | LB Aliquippa | 2024 State PA has 2 D1 FCS scholarship offers: to the Saint Francis Red Flash and HBCU Morgan State. Williams is an effective blitzer who will be a handful for Hickory. He’s physical and a talented re-router, slowing wideouts down when they try to release quickly upfield. Williams is also skilled at engaging and disengaging in run pursuit.
Quentin Goode Quentin Goode 5’11” | 165 lbs | QB Aliquippa | 2024 State PA has been Mister Reliable under center for the last couple of seasons. The senior signal caller has a strong arm, and he’s solid at pulling and throwing swiftly on play-action or RPOs. Goode will keep Hickory honest due to his ability to get outside the pocket and run. I’m excited to see Quentin perform after witnessing him play lights out on the 7-on-7 circuit in the offseason.
DeMarkus Walker DeMarkus Walker 5’9″ | 150 lbs | DB Aliquippa | 2024 State PA is a consistent, competitive cornerback who has solid technique. Walker is an athlete that serves as a weapon for Aliquippa at DB and in the slot on offense. Walker will be up for the challenge of covering and contesting passes at defensive back. Demarkus is a talented man defender who excels at covering quick game or 5-step routes.
Arison Walker Arison Walker 5’8″ | 155 lbs | ATH Aliquippa | 2025 State PA , another two-way player, put in serious work in the offseason. I love Arison’s tough mentality and overall versatility on the gridiron. Very similar to DeMarkus, Arison is a two-way player who can hurt you at safety or wide receiver. I’m very intrigued to see where Walker will be playing full-time on defense, as he performed well as a nickel and safety in 2022. Walker has good ball skills and range covering the backend.
I had to sneak in a mention of the current backup QB, Marques Council, in this preview as well. The 6’3″ dual-threat sophomore has a strong arm and impressive body control for being an underclassman. Obviously, Goode is the starter, but if Council gets any reps, Hickory will remember him. Marques is ranked as the #14 best QB in the class of 2026.
Highlights
Keenan Scullin Keenan Scullin 6’1″ | 170 lbs | ATH Hickory | 2024 State PA is a talented two-way athlete that the Quips should be aware of. The senior WR/DB currently has an offer to D2 Clarion in the PSAC. Scullin is another receiver the Quips will have to specialize in stopping. He was a 1000-plus yard receiver in 2022, and he’s back to make more plays in ’23. I’m just as impressed with Keenan on defense, watching him reroute receivers from the nickel position and display good ball skills by intercepting passes. He’s tough, athletic, physical, and runs a 4.5-second 40-yard dash. I’m sure Keenan is up for the task of competing against Western PA’s best in Aliquippa.
Luke Nevil
Luke Nevil
Luke Nevil is an athlete who finished ’22 with 501 receiving yards, 6 TDs, and missed 2 games. Luke is a deep threat for sure, capable of running by DBs if not given the proper cushion. He’s fast off the line and does a good job setting up his routes. Nevil plays fast and has a knack for making big plays downfield. I’m very excited to see Nevil matched up against Aliquippa’s top-flight secondary.
Zander is a dual-threat quarterback who lowers the boom when he rushes with the football. Telesz looks good executing RPOs, rollouts, and obviously QB keepers. He has good footwork in the pocket, a decently strong arm, and accuracy. Zander does a bang-up job of spreading the ball around to his weapons. The 2025 signal caller has a quick release and good placement on his throws. Telesz will have his work cut out for him matched up against Aliquippa’s top-notch secondary.
Timmy Krivosh
Timmy Krivosh
Timmy is a tough free safety on the backend. He plays way bigger than his 5’8″ frame. He displayed a lot of ball skills in 2022 and triggers fast when running the alley. He’s an intelligent player who trusts what he sees and regularly makes plays. He’s more than a reliable tackler; he actually lays the wood when coming up to hit. Timmy is also a standout special teams performer that Aliquippa should be familiar with.
I think Sean will give the Quips a lot of trouble on defense from the linebacker spot. He plays off blocks well, and he’s a solid and reliable tackler. He’s a good zone dropper who will lay the wood if you catch a pass in front of him. He’s very effective as a blitzer, putting pressure on QBs swiftly. He’s also very talented at reading and reacting on inside runs. I’m very interested to see the progress that he could’ve possibly made in the off-season because if he made any, he will be a dangerous two-way player. Kennedy is another player who has been receiving interest from the PSAC.
Lewis is a 6’3, 300-pound sophomore who plays above his underclassman status. He’s tough and plays hard until the whistle blows. He got a lot of valuable playing time as a freshman for the Hornets. Once he gets his feet moving behind his weight, he will surely be able to move people. I want to know if Luke worked on his footwork in the off-season because if he did, he will be a relevant performer on the offensive line.
