It was a hazy and humid evening at the West Liberty University Thursday Night Lights Camp but that didn't stop over 75 WV and surrounding area athletes from competing. There was plenty of talent on hand and some really impressive athletes and performances. Here were some of the top defensive back and specialist talent I saw at camp.

Anthony Carter - Struthers (OH) | 2024

By far the best defensive back I saw at Thursday's West Liberty TNL Camp was 2024 Struthers (OH) DB Anthony Carter. Carter is a safety prospect and plays in the box a lot in high school but he looked really good in 1-on-1s and won a lot of his reps. Carter is a thicker build but can run and cover in space and I had him winning the highest amount of reps in 1-on-1s. He's fast and physical and does a great job in run defense and can even rush the passer some. Carter is a 3x First Team All-Conference performer and 3-year starter. He just picked up an offer from D2 Clarion University (PA) and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hilltoppers join them.

[player_tooltip player_id='870564' first='Anthony' last='Bachinski'] - Brooke | 2024

I think I've seen 2024 Brooke ATH/DB [player_tooltip player_id='870564' first='Anthony' last='Bachinski'] more this summer than my own parents. Bachinski has been everywhere during camp season and it's going to pay off for him in time. He always looks the part in person and is a good overall athlete. The rising senior is very versatile but probably will end up at safety at the next level. He measured in at 5'10 188 at Wheeling University's camp and ran a 4.8 40 and a really quick 4.26 shuttle time. Bachinski's straight-line speed won't blow you away but he's really agile and has great feet in shorter distances. I'm not sure if he ends up at a D2 school but if he doesn't a D3 college is getting a great player that will earn accolades in time.

Mac Pettigrew - Bellaire (OH) | 2024

Bellaire (OH) DB Mac Pettigrew is a really athletic corner prospect and has the pedigree to be a good college prospect. His older brother RayRay signed with the University of Findlay this year to play defensive back and I wouldn't be surprised to see younger brother Mac on the same path. He's not quite on the level as his older brother at this time but he's not far behind either and I really like his future outlook. Pettigrew is a bit slight right now at 5'11 142 and will need to add some weight but the athleticism is there. He ran a 4.6 40, broad jumped 3 yards, and finished the shuttle in 4.49 seconds. That kind of athleticism will get him some looks and I expect he will eventually sign with a D2 school just like his older brother.

Another notable defensive back:

Lawson Lewis - Steubenville (OH) | 2024

Also saw him at Bethany College's prospect camp and he looked good. Smaller DB with decent athleticism. Most likely a D3 type of prospect but some good things to work with.

Specialist:

[player_tooltip player_id='1117911' first='Landon' last='Bradley'] - Morgantown | 2024

There was only one specialist working out at West Liberty's TNL Camp and that was 2024 Morgantown Kicker/Punter [player_tooltip player_id='1117911' first='Landon' last='Bradley']. Bradley can execute either duty and looked good doing both. I saw him boot a pretty 50-yard punt that had a nice spiral and pretty good hang time. Bradley will be battling it out with 2025 kicker [player_tooltip player_id='864582' first='Aidan' last='Stire'] this season for playing time for the Morgantown Mohigans. He's also a college baseball prospect and an overall good athlete.
