One of the last major passing tournaments in Southern California took place last Saturday at Mission Viejo High.

The South County Classic is an annual event where 20 teams gather to compete in 7-on-7 and some in a linemen competition.

Mater Dei won the event by beating Mission Viejo in finals.

Here are some offensive players that stood out to me during the event. Disclaimer: I did not get to see every team play.

MATER DEI

I did not get to see a lot of Mater Dei on Saturday but it's not the least bit surprising that the Monarchs won the tournament. [player_tooltip player_id='683642' first='Elijah' last='Brown'] was slinging the ball as usual and freshman quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='400854' first='Furian' last='Inferrera'] got some meaningful snaps. [player_tooltip player_id='683685' first='Marcus' last='Brown'] caught three touchdown passes in the championship game against Mission Viejo.

MISSION VIEJO

Mission Viejo used its running backs a bit more than they did the previous week in the Battle at the Beach. Hinesward Lilomaiav caught a touchdown pass from [player_tooltip player_id='1000890' first='Luke' last='Fahey'] in the championship game and Winslow Garnier also had a touchdown reception.

SERVITE

Servite is a program that is on the right track to improvement with strong underclassmen players. [player_tooltip player_id='406664' first='Leo' last='Hannan'] was one of the top quarterbacks on the day and he is a fast-rising prospect. Tight end Aidan O'Callaghan was a breakout performer of the day and Quinn Rosenkranz was good as he usually is.

CENTENNIAL

[player_tooltip player_id='406636' first='Husan' last='Longstreet'] did not play for the Huskies due to a finger injury but Centennial may have the best young receiving corps in Southern California. [player_tooltip player_id='406661' first='Noah' last='Westbrook'] got heavy praise from the coaches along with [player_tooltip player_id='406637' first='Cory' last='Butler'] and Rancho Cucamonga transfer [player_tooltip player_id='398454' first='Jason' last='Harris'].

SAN JACINTO

San Jacinto was competitive with Centennial for a bit and it was largely because of Oregon commit [player_tooltip player_id='398384' first='Dillon' last='Gresham']. He took reps against both of Centennial's top corners and was getting open against multiple coverages.

CYPRESS

Cypress moved the ball well throughout the day due to its returning star quarterback Aidan Houston. He is one of the top senior quarterbacks in Orange County. [player_tooltip player_id='915778' first='Michael' last='Hubbard'] and Jake Portenueve made big plays for Cypress down the field.

LA HABRA

La Habra showed off new quarterback Kenny Saucedo and worked in an impressive freshman as well. Bryce Whitley is a speedy target for the Highlanders and Brandon Giron is eligible for the full season this year after transferring a year ago. Junior tight end [player_tooltip player_id='1312860' first='Ulavai' last='Fetuli'] is 6-foot-4 and may be a matchup nightmare this fall.

MILLIKAN

Millikan looked better in the game I saw them play than they did last week in the Battle at the Beach tournament. The usual top guys played well for Millikan like [player_tooltip player_id='115471' first='Ryan' last='Pellum'] and [player_tooltip player_id='398433' first='Gregory' last='McClendon'].

APPLE VALLEY

Apple Valley went winless in pool play but still had some players perform well. Noah Celie is a good athlete at quarterback. Head coach Kyle Godfrey praised the efforts of running back Xavier Salazar, receivers Jacob Wilkerson and Will Christian.

CHAPARRAL

Chaparral had one of the best quarterbacks of the event in [player_tooltip player_id='270900' first='Dash' last='Beierly']. He is built like a linebacker and can throw as well as anyone. Multiple opposing coaches praised him. [player_tooltip player_id='282683' first='Jacob' last='Alvarez'] is a big tight end who you can't cover with most linebackers in man coverage. Corbin Frutos got praise from the Chaparral coaches and so did freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1382571' first='Tycen' last='Johnson'].

BISHOP AMAT

Bishop Amat went undefeated in pool play and was moving the ball down the field consistently in a solid pool that included Mayfair and Mission Viejo's B team. [player_tooltip player_id='406732' first='Frankie' last='Villalbazo'] looked solid at quarterback and he has a big frame. A plethora of receivers performed well for the Lancers including [player_tooltip player_id='283593' first='Cameron' last='Vasquez'], Talan O'Dell, Damien Marez, [player_tooltip player_id='401246' first='Eric' last='Osorio'] and Isacc Jauregui.
