For this next article, I decided to look at some of the talented seniors from around Iowa. Here are a few incoming seniors that I think are ready to make a
Owen Thomas | LB/TE | Lewis Central | 6’3″ 225 lbs
A “right off the bus” type of prospect that catches your attention from the get-go. Owen has great size at 6’3″ and 225 pounds while still being a very mobile and versatile athlete. Owen was big at inside linebacker for the Titan’s defense, performing all of his duties at a high level. He plays both the pass and the run very well, but especially impressed with his run defense. Owen does a great job reading the play before the snap and then displays sound gap play as he attacks downhill. He’s very physical at the point of attack, using his size to deliver some tough hits while maintaining a solid tackling technique. On the offensive side of the ball, Owen is a great receiving target that can win reps by creating separation or by just out-muscling the opposing defender. Strong, reliable hands. Thomas also flashed his ability to tack on yardage after the catch, showing a nice burst after he secured the ball and his ability to break tackles. Owen currently has offers from Winona State, Sioux Falls, Washburn, Missouri Western State, Central Missouri, and D1 FCS offers from Northern Iowa and Lindenwood. Buy stock now!!
Logan Johnson Logan Johnson 6'1" | 265 lbs | OL Kennedy | 2024 State IA | OL/DL | Kennedy | 6’2″ 255 lbs
A mauler on what should be a pretty solid Kennedy offensive line unit this season. Logan is a versatile offensive lineman that can play either guard or tackle, although he probably projects best at guard. His physicality and motor pop on his tape instantly. He does a great job using violent hands and can work his way inside with ease. Once he gains inside momentum, Johnson is always looking to finish his blocks in the dirt and has the strength and leg drive to do so. Good lateral quickness with the ability to move up to second-level blocks. Logan is also a DL prospect with a lot of potential, displaying a solid get-off and tireless pursuit of the ball. Watch out for this guy in the trenches this season.
Mason VanDerBrink | LB | Southeast Polk | 6’3″ 220 lbs
A player on the rise! Southeast Polk LB Mason VanDerBrink has seen a recruitment bump after his first offer from Lindenwood and a solid summer. Since then, Mason has also added offers from Eastern Illinois (FCS), Pitt State, Northwest Missouri State, and Missouri Western State. When watching Mason’s tape, the thing that stood out to me was his ability to make plays happen no matter what his assignment was. If Mason is rushing the passer, he does a great job timing his blitz and exploding through his gaps. When defending the run, VanDerBrink displays his smart gap play, ability to disengage from blocks, and a sure tackler in open space. Mason can even drop into coverage, where he shows solid lateral quickness, great range, and good ball skills. With Mason’s on-field talent and pedigree coming from an elite Southeast Polk program, he would be a steal at this point in the recruitment process.
Charlie Cross Charlie Cross 6'0" | 185 lbs | TE Waukee | 2024 State IA | TE/ATH | Waukee | 6’1″ 195 lbs
A bit of a swiss-army knife in the Waukee offense, Charlie Cross Charlie Cross 6'0" | 185 lbs | TE Waukee | 2024 State IA showed a good level of versatility in his tape. Charlie is an effective receiving flex TE who can also line up in the backfield to block as a fullback. Cross really impressed with his receiving ability, displaying great hands and concentration through the catch process, even when in traffic or with defenders on him. He has the strength to hold on to the ball through contact. Cross is a great route runner who can create separation from defenders and has a keen sense for attacking zone coverages. Cross had a few plays where he was in line as a blocker, and he looked and moved like a lineman. Charlie is a great lead blocker and does a great job building momentum before exploding through his block. I’m looking forward to watching Charlie build on his junior season.
