Preseason Preview: Flagstaff Eagles

<!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Overview</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Flagstaff High is looking to bounce back from a dissappointing 2022 season. They finished the season 2-8 while playing a tough region schedule, as their only two wins came against Rio Rico and Washington. They definitely have one big region game circled on their schedule, which is cross town rival Coconino. They suffered a brutal 82-0 loss at Coco last year, and you have to belive they're coming into 2023 with a chip on their shoulder and a whole differnt demeanor, especially when they get a shot to redeem themselves in that rivalry game. Don't sleep on these guys though, as Flag has an impressive group of young talent looking to hit their stride this fall. They return QB [player_tooltip player_id='739447' first='Chase' last='Brown'] who flashed a ton of promise last year as a freshman, along with the dynamic 2025 ATH Jadon Wetzel. I don't see Flag stuggling to put up points offensively as those two project to take a big leap, along with WR Tyler Magill. However, defensively is a different story. Four out of their top 5 leading tacklers are gone due to graduation, 8 out of their 9 INT's were by seniors, and they only had 5 sacks as a team last year according to MaxPrep's stats. With that being said, there's going to have to be numerous guys step up on that Flag defense, including 2025 James Pena and 2024 Ben Wolter.
