Continue ReadingToday we will be taking a look at some 2025 LB’s ranked inside the top 50 that know how to get a hat to the football and are a nightmare for opposing teams. Again this is a film review and is my opinion on what I see from the film that they have. If you want your film reviewed make sure you are sending it to me to get put on the next film review session.
Kolstad is a player that vision plays a big role for him as he is not overly aggressive and stays at home. He is good at reading his keys and presses down to the line of scrimmage in the run game but does not get sucked up into the wash, he is able to stay back and scrap over the top if the ball carrier tries to bounce it. He is great in pursuit as he shows the ability to chase the ball carrier down from behind the play as well. He has a knack for punching the ball out and can create short field opportunities for his offense. Shows good lower body strength and can stand the ball carrier up, forcing them backwards when he wraps them up.
Daniels might be one of the most explosive LB’s in this class, as he looks like he is shot out of a cannon when he reacts to the run. He has great vision and is quick to read and react to his keys, coming down and making plays at the line of scrimmage or making tackles behind the line. He is great at getting the O-lines hands off and using his speed to get to the QB when his number is called. He is a player that knows his assignments and you can see this by which the speed he plays with, always playing with his foot on the gas. He has the strength to stand ball carriers up in the hole and not give up ground. He will be a player trying to make a case for top LB in the state this season.
Highlights
Markovich is one of the more sneaky athletic backers that you will run into. He is quick to read and react to his keys but gets on the line faster than they expect at times, being able to get past the protection and make a play in the backfield. He has soft hands and can come away with the football at times when he drops back into coverage. At times, he uses his vision and explosiveness to go underneath blocks and get to the ball carrier before they can get to the outside. He shows good instinct with this, knowing his speed and finding the hole to make a break on the ball. He plays with strength and can stop the ball carrier in their tracks.
Highlights
Jones is a versatile backer that can line up in a normal outside backer position or flexed outside on slot receivers. He has the speed to play out in space but he can do his damage coming off of the edge and creating pressure on the QB. When he is in coverage he is able to play back and rally up to the underneath passes, stopping them for a short gain. When he is at the line he has the ability to navigate around blockers at the line and making a play in the backfield. When his number is called he can be deceptive at tricking the line and QB, being unaccounted for off of the edge and getting a sack.
Villarreal is a backer that has the old school mentality when is comes to his play on the field. He shows the physicality wanting to come up and pop the ball carrier or intended receiver. He is good at dislodging the ball from the receivers and is good at the line of scrimmage with redirecting TE’s/Slot receivers when he is in coverage as well. At times he shows the speed to be able to track the ball down from behind the play, getting to the ball carrier when they get stuck trying to find a hole to run through. He is good at getting pressure on the QB when his number is called and can hit home as well at times.
